2015/16 home and home with Bama?

"Can somebody help Battle out and play Alabama? Sounds like the Tide would even take a home-and-home at this point, but Battle said he's not sure that's feasible because “everybody's scheduled for '15.”"

Why not? I believe we have a vacancy on our 2015 schedule with only Baylor, TCU, and UNT scheduled OOC right now. If they were willing to do a home and home and come to Dallas in 2016 I would hop on it. Yes, we'd get whipped and it wouldn't be close, but talk about getting your name out there, building your brand, and selling SMU to fans from other conferences. Also Alabama and Nick Saban playing us in Dallas would be the main college football attraction in the DFW area of the weekend- bar none.

Besides TCU who is our traditional rival, I don't see much value to scheduling other Big 12 teams in the future that want nothing to do with us in their conference. Might as well start scheduling P5 teams from other conferences that will travel well to Dallas- which would be pretty much any SEC team besides Kentucky, and also a lot of Big Ten schools and Pac-12 schools (although not Wazzu - I think we had 18k when we played them in Dallas)

By the way, June would flip his [deleted] if we scheduled Alabama. But he probably won't be here in six months, so...

We do have an opening in both 2015 and 2016, so why not?

I know most on here would not agree, but I think we could hang with Alabama until the game got out of hand.

"The University of Alabama is in discussions with Southern Miss to help fill out its 2015 out-of-conference schedule, The Tuscaloosa News has learned.

In order to make the game, Southern Miss must move a couple of things around, The Tuscaloosa News has learned. Southern Miss travels to Bryant-Denny Stadium Sept. 13 this year with Alabama paying the Golden Eagles $1.4 million for the game."

If the AAC goes to 9 conference games next year (I've seen no indication that we will, but I haven't seen any indication that we won't, either), then we don't have an opening on our 2015/16 schedules.

The American announced today there will be eight conference games in 2015 and beyond.

We've purposely dropped A&M and Baylor to play teams that are in our league. Now, some want to bring an even tougher opponent which is guaranteed to be a loss? That's a heck of a way to motivate the team and fan base.

I get what you're saying, but with Bama it's a case of "you're not expected to win, so you can't really lose". The problem with the Big XII teams is there are enough folks who remember the days when we did compete with those teams that losing to them stings more because it reminds us how far we've fallen and how far we are away from getting back. If we play a body bag game against a team like Bama, it's nothing but positive exposure win or lose. Lose but play well and you exceed expectations; lose and don't play well, who cares because that's what supposed to happen and by the way we'll make some money in the process. Win, and all holy hell breaks loose. Why not?

Update on this: Sounds like Bama filled their '15 schedule with Southern Miss, or is in the process of doing so.

Also, I heard they dropped Michigan State from their 2016 schedule and the rumor is they'll play USC at Jerryworld for the 2016 Cowboys Classic. Should be a good game.
