Yeah, I don't think we're winning eleven games this year, but his teams have historically shown substantial improvement after subpar seasons. As I've said before, a 2-10 season wouldn't surprise me and an 8-4 season wouldn't really surprise me either

I think we will win 8 games this year. I would not be surprised if we beat TCU and win 9 though.

would be interesting to see what the out of conference games were in each of those bounce back yrs. Pretty sure you wouldn't find the likes of A&M, TCU, and Baylor

Yeah, no P5 teams in 2001. But four in 2006 (Arizona State, Oregon State, Purdue, and Alabama, plus #25 Boise State) and one in 2008 (Wazzu, plus #11 TCU who was in the MWC at the time). That's why I said I wasn't expecting 9+ wins or a six game improvement from 5-7 last year in 2014, but June's teams have rebounded well in the past after losing seasons.

Great post! Something to get excited about! Let's keep this on the board though. We don't want our opponents to realize that we can beat them. Lol. I'm gonna say if we win 2 out of our first 4, then we have a CHANCE to win conference because of the confidence that those wins will provide. Given what you just said, along with some additions to the team, and good qb play... :) Only 3 months away now! Pony up! ✌✌

5-7, because 3-9 would make it too easy on the fan base to lower the axe on June. We need lots of strife and anger, and Rick Goesselin has to write an epically uninformed column when June gets the boot.

Good effort messenger. Though I wouldn't put a ton of stock into his Hawaii turnarounds because of the weak WAC schedule and the 9 home games they played both seasons.

Please tell me one position where we upgraded from last season?

BTW, I believe our schedule is more difficult this season and we only won 5 games last year with more talent than we'll have this year.

Return all of our RBs plus Gresham, plus the entire DL returns. There's two.

The OL wasn't phenomenal last year at Gottshalk was a solid player, but we'll return both starting tackles (I thought Briggs was good at LT last year; Weeks would probably be best moving inside to guard) and our starting center in Lasecki who is a solid center. Uncertainty at QB and WR, yes, but that doesn't automatically mean we'll suck at those two positions next year.

Sorry I'm drunk on a Thursday and trying to talk myself into 2014 SMU football again

Didn't they have weak WAC schedules and 9 home games the prior years when they finished below .500 too? If so, then your comment does not really address the significant improvement his teams have had the year after finishing under .500 so you are just applying the usual talking points to dismiss any achievements he had at Hawaii even though they are not really applicable in this case.

That said, I think we wi be under .500 this year.
