HOUSTON -- Lychelle Hadley and her classmate Arabia Johnson headed back to their UH dorm Monday evening, consumed by a mystery just across the street.
“Who would you sneak into a stadium that’s being built,” said Hadley.
“I don’t understand why’d she’d be there in the middle of the night,” said Johnson.
What happened occurred inside the University of Houston’s new football stadium. Construction workers discovered a woman’s body on the ground beneath the scoreboard. UH police said she's a student and they believed she fell to her death. It wasn’t clear how she managed to get into the seemingly secure work site, though some students said it wouldn’t be too hard.
“It doesn’t really seem heavily guarded or anything,” said Jose Garcia. “I guess they see it as common sense that people wouldn’t go in there.”
Security guards told KHOU 11 News that they were unaware of any prior incidents of people sneaking onto the property.
But a couple of other students we spoke with said students have been getting in, hanging out, and one of them said drinking alcohol.
Campus police said they do not suspect foul play in the young woman's death.

Gosh, that's terrible. Was she climbing on the scoreboard?

I'm sure the university will be forced to shell out some cash as a result of this young woman's selfish actions.

That's a little harsh.

Very sad indeed, a parents worst nightmare. I have had to say goodby way too often the last few years to young adults I have know since they were little. No matter the circumstances ... it rips your heart out.

May the God Lord ease their pain.

Yeah, that came out a little different than I anticipated. Feel bad for her friends and family.

That being said, I'm sure a number of ambulance-chasing shysters are lining up by their door to file a negligence or wrongful death suit. There's no such thing as an accident anymore.

Could be a case of negligence.

well, it seems the definition of what "reasonable" people would determine to be their duty goes up all the time. it seems that a chain link fence with a "no trespassing" sign previously met that level, nowadays it seems that Fort Knox wouldn't meet the definition today. i remember days where common sense not to wander on to a construction site was all you needed.

either way, like i said, i feel bad for her friends and family. i echo the sentiments that it's never a good thing to see kids pass that early. didn't mean to pick a fight on here today.

Across Central from SMU is the Meadows Building, probably so familiar today that it is little noticed. It was completed ca 1955 per the article given by the link and I was in HS at the time.

One day while it was under construction some friends and I decided to see what it looked like. Probably it was on a weekend or at least after the construction guys were finished for the day. The site was not secured and we wandered around for a while. We may have done that at several construction sites over a period of time and were never challenged.

Maybe we were lucky none of us fell and got hurt. There were never any girls in our party, though. It sounds like kids are still kids - curious - although it may be that there is more to the story. I am sorry for the individual and her family.

Tromping around a job site and falling in a negligently secured pit or something is one thing. Climbing up a scoreboard and falling off is another and not really construction related

Sounds like she was very interesting. If you secure the site and have no tresspassing signs, the builders shouldn't be responsible for her death anymore than any other agent that aids in suicide (pill or gun maker, etc.). This is a warning that if people are soliciting interesting historical suicide notes, you may want to sit down and talk with them.
