SMU in a Bowl?I was surprised to read that Sporting News had SMU in Hawaii Bowl game v. Rice. They are not the only ones putting us in a bowl, yet other publications and fans are low-balling, as few as 2 wins. I guess the "bowl" people think we may reach 6/7 wins, which to me seems difficult. I certainly hope Jones can surprise us this year, as I always pull for my school no matter the opponent... or the coach. Go Ponies and give us a Christmas present!
Re: SMU in a Bowl?Total X factor is the QB transfer Matt Davis and whether or not June's offensive philosophy will allow him to utilize his natural abilities or if we will try to pigeonhole him into a scheme that doesn't really cater to his skill set. Also, we need some WR's to step up and carry the load that Jeremy Johnson and Keenan Holman carried last year. DJ had a pretty nice year but aside from that we don't have anyone coming back that has proven himself on the field. Defensively we should be better but I still think we are really vulnerable in the secondary. Hopefully JR Richardson can regain some confidence and be the kind of player that warranted offers from Michigan and other P5 programs out of HS.
We are like a lot of other P5 programs. If we stay healthy and get lucky we can line up and play with anyone in our conference. If we have a rash of injuries at a few key positions then our lack of depth and skill will be exposed. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: SMU in a Bowl?I do not let myself be consumed with the "fan" pessimism. I think we are in a position to win 7-8 games this year. Beat TCU and UNT, 6 AAC opponents (very doable) and we should be fine. Last year we won 4 in the AAC and were 10 points away from winning 7...

Sounds like a well attended game......... Peruna is my mascot!
Re: SMU in a Bowl?
It's not much different than last year's media/fan predictions. The ones that thought we'd miss a bowl were right. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Right is right, barely or otherwise. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: SMU in a Bowl?
Right because as you've noticed from previous Hawaii Bowl games played on Christmas Eve, it's been pretty much a SRO scenario. Stop being such a rick with a p.
SMU in a Bowl?Look, I get your points blackout and sb. But no one who predicted we would miss a bowl thought that it would be against a highly ranked team and come down to a single touchdown. I'm not trying to make that point seem like we were all world or anything, but this underestimation of our team gets more than a little tiring

Re: SMU in a Bowl? What really gets tiring is the amount of people on this board who are hoping for us to lose 7+ games and miss a bowl game.

Re: SMU in a Bowl? This year is the hardest to predict since JJ became head coach. SMU has to count on two qbs that could either be great or big disappointments; receivers with little to judge them by and a weak defense that should be much stronger (if all goes well). Offensive line should be stronger if everyone stays injury free. I would love to see 8 wins and think it could happen. But, I don't expect it. I would take 6 wins today if offered. The bottom line...NOBODY knows how good or bad we will be and I think you can include the coaching staff at this point.
Re: SMU in a Bowl?In my opinion this is the easiest year to predict in awhile-no bowl. That's the consensus from the preseason experts too. SMU is a longshot this year
