They announced Thursday they had sold more than 2,000 NEW season tickets for football. Maybe some are Aggies but oh we'll... Just take the money and go.

that's b/c they encouraged anyone wanting to buy basketball season tickets to buy football tickets, or increase their football commitment (i.e. order more tix) in order to get more MC points to move up the list for hoops tix since there were more requests than seats available for sale.

So now they are forcing you to buy tickets to watch a crappy product lead by a coach that doesn't want to be here just so you can see some bball games. So typical SMU and then they wonder why a substantial number of alums don't care about the school and don't support it. A better idea might have been to make a bigger contribution specifically to the bball program- at least you would feel you are getting some value for your money.

Or the success of our basketball program is driving investment into other programs, which in turn is increasing our recruiting budget, which leads to our coaching staff being able to hire more assistants internally to free them up to take more recruiting trips.

I see nothing wrong with success in one sport driving financial gain for another, so that we can have a strong push forward in both revenue sports.

I for one felt no encouragement what so ever. Renewed my football tickets like I have for the last 30 years. Same for Basketall. Is there a problem?

Welcome to the school continuing to advance itself in a bigger athletics arena. Get used to it.

So what you posted is a fact? Opinion? Analysis?

What exactly is your angle because you're all over the place?

Why not direct ones contribution to the sport one wants to support. The head of that sport then can intra-school loan the proceeds to the needy/requesting sport. Sort of like corporate subsidiaries of a parent company, loaning funds to a sister subsidiary. Could even take it off shore if the teams play abroard, as the ponyexpress did in Japan. I can imagine LB setting up covenants/requirements to a loan to the football program with JJ.

You went 5-7.........I'm calling the loan !

wow, you all really missed the point.

there is a long waiting list for the 1500 or so available basketball tickets. long enough that not everyone who wants one will get one. it's based on a priority points system via the Mustang Club. Mustang Club points can be earned in any number of ways. monetary donation to the MC club is one. Buying season tickets to sports is another. you get points based on how many season tickets you buy - on a per-seat basis.

you get 2 points for every $100 donated. you get 1 point for every season ticket you buy. so if you want to 'buy' your way up the list to try make sure you get a basketball season ticket, you could pick up 4 end-zone seats for $99 each. get yourself some MC points and have tickets to use, give away, scalp  , etc.

and for the record, this didn't affect me at all i've got my seats for both sports, so i'm good.

And you missed my point. What I'm saying is that this is what big time athletics operates.

i wasn't talking about you. i know how big time athletic programs operate. i was just stating the reason why football sales are up. it's not that 2000 more people are so excited to watch football.

Got it. Thanks. But I'm like you -- have season tickets for both.
