I know this had been hinted at during spring practice, but Beau Barnes is now listed as a LB on the SMU football roster, which has recently been updated with the incoming freshmen and their jersey numbers:

Interesting move with Seals, Yenga, and Sanders already at LB. Maybe this means the staff feels really good about Minor and want to get him on the field

There was talk of that in the spring - I would think that means they are really happy with what the other DL people are doing, or real concerned that Sanders won't healthy,
Jeanlys was on the roster, which is good - he was maybe going to grey shirt, but maybe that means he is healthy.

Yeah, looks like Jeanlys and Ryheem Malone are both enrolled as they're on the roster. JR Reed from Plano is the safety recruit that is grey shirting

Also interesting that Hollie is listed as a RS Freshman, even though he played in Rutgers game. Maybe he got a medical RS? Not sure if you can get one if you play in the fifth game.

Not sure on Hollie - assume their was a medical issue.
Noticeably absent - Nwabulke, and Holleman - opening up places for new recruits to replace people that never produced at SMU. I think that is good.

Don't see J'Marcus Rhodes either

I thought Cedric Lancaster was supposed to be a budding superstar at inside receiver-they list him at db. Pope listed at LB too-I wonder if this is fully updated

Rodney Hubert is another gained scholarship-not on roster. Brian Cramer left in spring right

Yes, I think so.

And yeah I don't think that roster is fully updated because all reports have indicated Pope is moving to RB next year, and he's still listed as LB

I was waiting for someone to make the inevitable nose tackle/running back joke. This one might have been worse, though.

Cramer left last fall, I think Hubert may have as well.

I make the worst jokes so no one else has to. Consider it community service. I'm still rolling my eyes over my "I hope we Ghana win this game."

Yes, the coaches do feel good about several of their defensive ends, including Minor and Elie Nabushosi, and the improved depth at the position allowed them to try the Barnes-at-linebacker idea.

Defensive coordinator Tom Mason said during the spring that there would be situations in which Barnes would play at each position. I haven't followed up with him on this, but knowing him, it would seem likely that he'll find a way to play Barnes at both spots, as Mason really likes players who are flexible enough to play multiple positions (see Yenga at ILB and OLB, McCleneghen at DE and NT, etc.)
