That is BS. I lived off of that amount at SMU and that "stipend" covered everything. Living expenses and EVERYTHING else.

I graduated in 2012 and had lower monthly budget than what he gets and all I did was get more fat.
Total crap. No, you can't ball out and pop bottles, but you shouldn't ever be starving unless you're an idiot. That'll buy you 5,431 tacos at del taco. Can't he still go eat at the cafeteria for free anyway? The NCAA got rid of restrictions of how much food you can have.

Makes more than TX minimum wage, so should probably keep his mouth shut.
I made about that (after taxes) at my first real job. Go Meadows!

Haha, this made me laugh. Once new food rules go into effect this cannot be an athlete's gripe anymore. $1,500 is almost double the stipend we got in early 00's and if managed properly should last the month.

It seems like his complaint is about the day they get the stipend, not the amount. If they get paid once a month there are the same number of days between every payment whether they get it on the first of the month, the 15th or the last day of the month so I wonder what he thinks it would do for him if they got paid on a different day.

When I was there we got $10/month and were not allowed to work during the school year. I did work (guess the NCAA could have busted us then) in order to have some money.

He can sell one joint or 6-pack back to his buddy and get a week supply of ramen.

That comment seems a bit below the belt, not knowing this student athlete. Regardless if you get paid at the end of the month you have to plan your budget accordingly.

Can someone please educate me on this. What does that stipend of $1500 cover. Is it just incidentals or does it include rent? From comments above I am inferring that is just food and such. If that is the case, boy people need to get an attitude adjustment and take some budgeting courses. $1,500 a month is an easily liveable amount and actually surprised that it is that much.
