Kicking game worries?

Does anyone have a clue how our kicker and punter might perform this year? I hope it doesn't get embarrassing. Why has JJ seemingly avoided addressing this in most of his tenure?

I bet Burcham can punt. Greenbauer helped with onside kicks last season before the disaster.

Longoria was an All-State punter in HS. I saw him blast one 75 yards in the air no wind ... it rolled into the end zone. He has a huge leg, I know he worked in the spring and summer .. who knows if that translates into PT. His issue is a little consistency (it is not too bad), and directional punting. But, if you tell him to rare back and let it fly ... he can do that. Don't we have a punter/kicking coming in with some cred?

Other than kicking off to start the first or second half, we shouldn't worry about having to kick much during the game.

And if we avoid turnovers and get to punt after every possession, that will be a huge positive.

Kinda my thoughts, at least through the first 3-4 weeks...

On the bright side the punting can't possibly be worse than it was last season.

I remember in the early '90s when SMU was playing Baylor at Ownby and the SMU punter was punting out of his end zone. Against the wind, he ended up punting it for a safety, I think it went backwards.

Yah SMU!

yep, I was there for that. Wasn't that the same game they didn't even attempt a pass against us because JJ joe had a bad wing?

I do think we recruited a kicker from Ca. this year freshman.

I thought I was going to get hit with one of SMU's punts at the TCU game (I was in the first row).

And they say SMU football isn't exciting...

Jackson Koonce was recruited to punt, and presumably will at least get a look on kickoffs, after 50 touchbacks on 63 kickoffs as a high school senior. Cody Rademacher was the presumed leading placekicker after Chase Hover's graduation. Rademacher has solid mechanics, and from what I have seen, pretty good leg strength, but I haven't seen enough (none in games, obviously) to know the extent of his range.

Punting can't be any worse than it was last year (can it?)
