Matt Davis - starting QBDoes anyone expect this for Baylor or are we pretty certain Burcham is a lock for the opener? If Davis gains JJ's trust in camp, I can see him taking the first snap in the new stay-jum.
Re: Matt Davis - starting QBhe'll get a fair shot, June does know qbs, and whether he understands the fine points.
Wish he was more flexible, but it is what it is. The ncaa is a R.I.C.O.
Re: Matt Davis - starting QBI'm pretty certain Burcham is going to be the starter, but I do expect Davis to get some playing time in the Baylor game. It will either be because we're blown out or I could see him coming in if Burcham struggles early similar to when Padron was pulled for McDermott after throwing 2 picks in the 1st quarter.
Re: Matt Davis - starting QBReason and logic suggests that Burcham will be the starter for the Baylor game if healthy. Davis has three weeks to gain June's trust and that won't be enough to beat the incumbent unless he displays a preternatural understanding of "We Do What We Do".
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Matt Davis - starting QBBurcham will start but after Baylor is up 28-35 then Davis will get his shot. I'd imagine by the A&M game one of the two will emerge.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Matt Davis - starting QBThe biggest game of Burcham's career is going to be NTSU in Denton. Lose that game and his SMU career won't survive an 0-6 start

Re: Matt Davis - starting QB0% chance Matt Davis starts against Baylor.
Re: Matt Davis - starting QBOnly bright spot to sucking is Davis will get his chance/practice against Baylor and aTm 3rd/4th string. Barring injury, we will have good solid, experienced depth there by the time the regular season starts. Of course, knowing June, even then he probably wouldn't sniff the field. (I bet JJ already has it worked out with Sumlin and Briles that "we'll agree to give your 3rd/4th string kids some quality practice if you pull your 1st/2nd string once you're up 40 and not REALLY embarrass us").
Re: Matt Davis - starting QBI would say read in between the lines on the practice reports. If you hear positive comments around Davis' accuracy, then he is going to eventually challenge for the spot. But until he is consistent he won't get a chance...
Re: Matt Davis - starting QB
His SMU career won't survive 0-2 start. Davis will start Aggie game if we lose in Denton...book it. Pony P-1
Re: Matt Davis - starting QB
Burcham needs to treat the Baylor and NTSU games like his Elite 11 performance. Expectations are so low that if he "has a pretty good game" and can get the ball in the end zone against Baylor (20+ points) especially he will be a hero (shouldn't be too hard against a Bennett defense) but THEIR offense will most likely score on us at will especially in the passing game (our corners will get burned all day long and no matter how good our safeties are, they are not fast enough to cover the whole field when our corners DO get burned).
Re: Matt Davis - starting QBAgree, I don't think an 0-2 start will spell the end of Burcham's career if he shows his potential like at the Elite 11 Camp. Davis has a long way to go in learning the offense and so I think it would take somewhere from a 0-4 to 0-6 start for him to see the field. I am really hoping Burcham emerges.

Re: Matt Davis - starting QBbasically, we have no idea if this guy is any good. Knowing June's history, he is not going to get a shot unless Burcham really messes up.

Like missing the bus and throwing 2 picks? Leader of the Band-itos.

Re: Matt Davis - starting QB
probably time to turn the page on the 'Bennett sucks' shots. Once Briles got the talent level up and they were healthy the first 10 games last year, Bennett's defense flew around and smashed people. Teams are usually healthy on opening night. Scoring once and holding less than 42 in the first half should be considered a decent launch point for what should be a riveting season. side note, was in a former Pony's wedding in Ojai. It is heaven on Earth. I have complete faith in your judgments 99.9%
