Re: Starting Wide ReceiversI was really hoping that Gaines would be the other outside receiver with his size, interesting Nelson is going to be a starter, didn't really see this coming.

Re: Starting Wide ReceiversMaybe Nelson complained his way into the spotlight, like he did back in 2011 to the Daily Campus.
Re: Starting Wide ReceiversPretty small group. I don't think there is one over 6'. I think Joseph is the tallest listed at 6', but I don't buy that.

Re: Starting Wide ReceiversCheck out Daily Campus Article today about Nelson. Not sure about 2011, but if we had everyone pulling in the same direction as that guy is then we could win 9 or 10 games this year even with a bunch of 2 stars.
Re: Starting Wide Receivers
Nelson said something in 2011 regarding the team hates playing at home, and would much rather play on the road. Talked about how bad SMU fans suck.
Re: Starting Wide ReceiversHard to fault a player for telling the truth but probably would have been best to not say anything. Funny how people make a big deal about how fast and big receivers need to be but you look at the receivers making it at smu and then later on in the NFL and they are 5-11 and under and around 170 to 180 pounds and avg upper 4.5s down to Als and ES 4.3s. Seems like shiftiness and ability to create space to get open are more important than size and speed, primarily for slot guys. Then you have the physical specimens who can make the fantastic highlight catches like the Cowboy guy but can't move the chains with the routine catches.
Re: Starting Wide ReceiversIt will be interesting to watch the group on Sunday. We know DJ is good. DT can stretch the field, but really hasn't made a huge impact. Lancaster has speed and athletic ability, but not sure about his ability to work the field.
Nelson is the wildcard. He has great hands. Can he get open? If Nelson can create space for himself on the field and become a second safety valve for Burcham, everything will be fine. But if he can't draw the attention of a safety, it could be a long game.
Re: Starting Wide Receivers
yep, good article about him today. about his journey as a walk-on, etc. hard not to like a kid like that. it's the good part of college athletics. Derail the Frogs!
Re: Starting Wide ReceiversGaines will probably rotate in the game. With Baylor having 3 DB's starting their first game we have a decent chance to gain some good yardage on them.

Re: Starting Wide ReceiversYou've pointed that out before, and it is a good point... in some respects, if our receivers can't free up against Baylor it might be a bad sign moving forward...
Re: Starting Wide ReceiversAnd as a whole Baylor has only four returning starters on the defensive side of the ball.

Re: Starting Wide ReceiversBaylor believes this is the best DL rotation they haver had. Starters coming back doesn't mean much.
