ESPN SMU vs. Baylor Preview-GET FIRED UP

Postby JoeKidd » Wed Aug 27, 2014 4:10 am

Here is the link to the official ESPN preview, http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/preview?gameId=400547648.

Its basically just an article about Baptist U and nothing about us. That coupled with the comment section almost solely by the Baptists about how many points they can hang on us has to stick in someone's craw besides just mine.

Baylor historically is not better than us and I am not going to rollover and accept a beating at their hands. We may have a lot of question marks, young players, they have a heisman trophy candidate, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. This is football and any team that wants to win bad enough can on any given day...Let's Get Fired Up and ruin their inaugural game. 'Go Stangs!

Baylor has a lot of pressure on them to perform well and they have 12 new starters on offense and defense. So it's not like we are the only ones with new players starting. In fact, Baylor might have more new starters than we do or close. It will be interesting to see what happens.

The gang of 30 has already penciled this in as a blowout. I think we have a shot at embarrassing a program that will always be inferior to us. Pony Up and BEAT THE teddy bears!

Defensively we have some talented pass rushers- Sanders, Yenga, Beau, and Minor. They've got to get home and get some hits on Petty. If he has all day to throw we will be in for a long night. Hopefully Mason has something a little spicier dialed up for Sunday than he has in the past

Offensively, we have to sustain drives and keep Baylor's offense off the field. Negative plays and penalties have to be avoided. Three and outs will be killer- have to keep moving the chains and give our D a breather. DJ will be Burcham's safety valve early on but we can't rely on six yard dink and dunks to him all game long. Der'Rikk and Ced and the other burners have to stretch the field, and Burcham has to make the throws to not allow their defense to load the box and stifle the run game and the underneath passes. OL play is going to be crucial. Can't get rattled and commit false starts/holding penalties.

The Gang of 30 is looking at this game rationally. I will be willing to bet you a large sum of money we lose by 3+ TDs. I am not being a debbie downer, just being realistic.

Harry, everyone reads this board...this ain't the place to be rational. It doesn't help morale for the team. It's sports for cryin out loud. Only place to be rational is in a Vegas sports book, in which you should never bet for or against a team you are a fan of.

I highly doubt a player would play at a lower level because I (or anyone else on this board for that matter) post that we are going to lose big.

Why should I get my hopes up? There has been ZERO evidence in the last 7 years that we can compete at a high level against Power 5 Opponents (do not say we beat Wazzu) and I will continue to believe that until I am proven wrong multiple times.

We can agree to disagree.

It's not trolling if it's fact. When we get a new coach that says we will start winning, will you call him a troll?
What were the odds on the David vs Goliath fight by the way? I'm thinking a lot of ppl were not happy with that outcome. We have a ton to gain from a victory here, and squash all that Baylor to the playoff nonsense ESPN is spreading

Are you really using a fabricated Bible story for a comparison (that is probably loosely true AT BEST)? dude come on.

By the way the odds were 25:1. I got in on that action and won big.

It's a true story but this may not be to that magnitude as UCF showed us. I believe SMU will show respectively whether we win or lose.
