Tom Rossley

If anyone has access to Tom Rossley, please tell him that I miss him and he was the only worthwhile coach we've had since the death penalty. The others were all worthless.

Tom Rossley at least brought hope to our program.

I'd be ok with Jones if he put the effort in. He just doesn't care.

I liked the combination of Gregg as HC and Rossley his assistant and would have liked to have seen a continuation. It is my memory that the university decided to separate the HC and AD jobs and in that case I think it was a mistake.

It is also my memory, and I will surely be corrected if wrong, that some former players had problems with one or both of them as HC.

I'm sure Tom was not perfect but he enjoyed the school and usually always talking up SMU along with his son at the events where I personally ran into him. Don't remember a time seeing him here in San Antonio (where he had house from Gunslinger days) when he didn't have SMU gear on.

Also, one could argue if being objective his teams performed better, executed better, looked better prepared against better competition and without benefit of on campus stadium and all the newer facilities. See the A & M tie in the Alamodome when A & M was highly ranked, the Arkansas games, etc. Sure didn't win them all, but at least but up some sort of fight.

You are letting him off too easy to say it is lack of effort. There are a lot of other problems that cannot be fixed by just trying harder.

FWIW, Jones was the first to offer Manziel as a QB.

Did he make any effort to contact him again after sending out the letter?

I would say that Gregg with Rossley's run n shoot, Rossley, and JJ were the best coaches since DP
and all have brought hope to the program.

Pye got Gregg, pre phonyphans Mustang Club members + DOHPEY got Rossley, and now "what
have you done for me lately" brat fans have been brats for more than 2 years :!:

We're doomed :!: :!: :!:
May the forth be with us.

Coach Rossley probably did the best with the talent he had in first rate competition in the SWC. Our teams have been better since then, but not better coached.

Rossley was beating SWC teams, something we have only done less and less since he was unduly let go.

See Hawaii Bowls. I know the opponents were under-motivated but if we'd played like that every game, we'd have a conference championship or two and would've picked off Tech and maybe TCU a few more times in that span. He (or someone on staff) can get a team ready. That's what is really frustrating.

That is because June considers Hawaii a "home game". All the times we play at Ford are road games to him which is why our record is the way it is. We do what we do.
