New Coach

Postby ponyfan08 » Tue Sep 02, 2014 12:02 pm

Since this thing is falling apart like a Sears suit, I hope we have a plan in place sooner rather than later. Need someone who can generate excitement. We need an established name, not a first time head coach. Just my opinion. People are going to laugh, but I would take Mack Brown. The guy could recruit. Bring in an O/C as a coach in waiting just like LB. I think he still has gas in the tank with something to prove.

An established name didn't work out too well the last time we tried it. LB is a unicorn, there's no one like that in football. Our problem is any established coach worth a damn already has a great job and isn't coming here. Guys like Mack Brown are unemployed for a reason, they've lost whatever it was that made them great. We need to find the next great HC not some has-been looking to pad his retirement fund.

I'd welcome that move just to see his wife around Ford.

Kiffin reminds me of the guy that is convinced he is the smartest one in the room, while still getting a C on the test. He has not excelled anywhere to prove his brilliance.

I would take a Mack Brown...or a Jake Spavital...or a Mike Bobo (Ga's OC, not our former qb).

Not a bad choice. He can recruit and would be a great promoter for SMU !

If a change has to be made I would think Tom Herman, Jake Spavital, Doug Meacham and Chad Morris would at least get a call.

Ok, so I know nothing on the matter. But what's the issue with SMU not being a place to come to? When PB was interviewed, he said something like "everyone said to never go there". What's the issue? Lack of admin support? What is it that makes us be a "bad place to go". Shouldn't we be a GREAT place to go? What's the issue? (serious question).

How many coaches have gone on from SMU and had successful head coaching careers since the DP?

I cant stand Bo Pelini - but if he got fired from Nebraska the entertainment factor of having him at SMU would be worth the money.
