Rick Hart

Postby CalallenStang » Tue Sep 02, 2014 4:01 pm

Had this to say:

@AD_RickHart: Congrats to @BaylorAD - McLane Stadium is impressive. Honored to participate in the inaugural game. #PonyUp #SWC

Hey Rick, how about "we'll do better next week" or SOME acknowledgement of what happened?

Nothing be says on twitter is going to change anything. Publicly calling out a lame duck coach does nothing. I realize everyone here likes to blindly blast Rick Hart for no reason but come on

ECM, do you feel that Hart will get our next coaching hire right and why do you think he will? Leaving football aside, IMO, I haven't been impressed by what he has done (or failed to do) with other sports where we have traditionally been very strong (eg, soccer and swimming), and I don't have a good feeling. I know the top 25 slogan was easy to make fun off, but what really are his expectations?

when I was in NY for the conference late last year, he allowed JJ to bail on attending and all he did was make up excuses for why we can't compete on an even footing with even our own conference members. All I heard were excuses, excuses about why we can't. I want someone to tell me why we can compete and why we can be relevant, and have a plan to start making it happen.

The top 25 slogan was orsinis, not Hart's.

Yes, I think Rick will make a great hire. He knows this hire will define his career at SMU and have a considerable impact on his ability to be an AD at a bigger school somewhere down the line. The idea that he is RGT's "Yes man" and is willing to risk his career carrying water for a university president who's probably retiring in the next 12-18 months is pretty stupid if you ask me.

I believe Hart tweeted that out hours before the game.

You don't have to tweet stuff with tough talk. It's pointless. Just do what you have to do behind the scenes and if there is something to announce then we'll know when the time is right.

I don't think he needs to call anything out. Tweeting "Tough loss, but the Mustangs never quit fighting. We'll do better next week" wouldn't call anyone out.

I just think he should publicly acknowledge that we lost. Only tweeting out after positive events is cowardice. And I'm a huge Rick Hart defender.

I think Hart has done a great job in game day programming and in ticket sales. These areas are night and day better than anything SMU has done in the past.

On this basis alone - Hart is an attractive AD candidate to other schools.

I have confidence in his ability to recomend the right hire - assuming we have "Old" money to fund the right hire - and get FB back where it should be. Which is winning AAC championships.

Rick's father is the Tennessee AD who recently made a successful FB hire so I'm hopeful that he will share his short list of coach candidates.

And if he tweeted that, he would get ripped for being a sunshiner and putting a positive spin on a terrible performance.

I thought it was an interesting juxtaposition between Butch Jones at Tennesee (who Rick's dad hired) and June on Sunday night. Walking into the stadium, Butch was high fiving fans, shaking hands, taking pictures with them, and getting them pumped up. During an interview pre-game he said "we're an emotional football team" and he was out there chest bumping players after big plays. At the end of the third quarter, the Vols sprinted from one end of the field to another. Even coming off of a 5-7 season and what will likely be a similar result this year, Butch Jones probably has a 90%+ approval rating in the state right now because:

(1) He's recruiting at a high level and giving fans hope for the future,
(2) He's very visible and engaging with the fans, and
(3) You can tell his players love playing for him.

How many of those things can you say about June? I think the impact Butch Jones has had at Tenneseee should give Rick Hart an idea of what we need here. Someone who engages the fanbase and the community, someone who recruits well and gives fans hope, and someone who lights a fire under his players to play with a passion.
