We will break our own record.

The last search for a football coach was 72 days officially. Throwing out a date....let's say November 28th (Clemson plays SC that day), that is 71 days.

SMU's last game is 12/5. Odds of hiring a coach before season concludes is virtually nil. Even if they announced that night, it is 78 days.

This will be the longest coaching search in college football history.

Get comfortable.

With social media, rumors will be flying the entire time. Should be fun.

We went over a year without a coach in the 80's (December 5, 1986 - Jan 14, 1988). Then again, there was no team either.

No thanks. SMU should pass on the Right Reverend.

It doesn't matter to me how long it takes - what matters to me is we get the right guy. We will have to give the new coach a five year contract and if it is for big bucks then we will be stuck with him because we will not be able to buy him out. I am perfectly content to see how the players can play without June's complicated system. I suspect there are some D1 football players on this team. Now is the time for them to show up, so the new coach can identify who he want's to keep.

Not a worry. If we started in November and took 70+ days, it would be a problem. If we start in September, it means we have plenty of time. Unless we go with someone currently unemployed (Oregeron, Nutt, Mack Brown), we are probably going to have to wait until December 1 before we announce anything.

You guys dismiss Houston Nutt too easily. We had experience with him in Arkansas. On the short term he would be outstanding.

Former players here in Arkansas think he would be a great fit. Used car salesman disguised as a coach. He knows recruiting and he knows Dallas. May be considered too old but I would not be upset with him.

we should sell our soul for someone who can sell us. This would qualify.

Some Rebs on the site had experience with him in Mississippi and they hate him. Who's right you or them?
