UNIVERSITY PARK — Defensive coordinator Tom Mason has seen a thing or two in his substantial coaching career. The mustachioed regular at Keller’s Hamburgers has now taken on the difficult position of becoming SMU’s interim head coach after June Jones announced his resignation Monday, just two games into the season.
But even this situation isn’t totally foreign to Mason, who served as an interim coach at Boise State back in 1996.
The Mustangs’ coaching staff learned of Jones’ resignation at 3 p.m. Monday, with a team meeting at 4 p.m., and Mason did not attend a university news conference Monday evening.
