One has Texas roots one has Louisiana roots. One has experience at P5 level the other pretty solid against sunbelt

Morris has Texas ties and Hudspeth has Louisiana ties. I read one article that said that strong Texas ties is what Hudspeth lacked. Morris vs Herman would be a good comparison as well.

SMU needs to bring out the big guns and go after Chad Morris. Pay him huge dollars to come to the Hilltop. We could be out of the woods in 2-3 years. Would be SMU's most prestigious hire in football. Want results?

Hudspeth has the look of a future SEC coach (lot of experience coaching in Louisiana/Alabama/Mississippi). Morris is a better fit for the SMU job (Texas HS coaching legend, arguably the premier OC in FBS).

I agree with Morris being the top candidate. This hire will speak volumes on SMU's desire to compete at the highest level.

highlights from this article about why Morris is happy at Clemson and will not jump at first job. This is from july 2014

http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20140717/PC20/140719405

"People look at me like I've got three eyes when I tell them that I don't want my first one to be my last one," Morris said. "If I do leave, I want everybody to sit here and go, 'Man, wow, thanks, we wish you the best, can't blame you' and not look at me and go, 'Why are you doing it?' That's just me.

"I'm not going to gauge whether I've been successful on, am I going to be a head coach? I've had that opportunity. My plans are to be a coordinator at Clemson for a long time. We love what we do, I work for a great man who allows me to run the offense. We'll continue to push forward. Excited about this year."

"I really hope that he gets that opportunity at some point. But you want it to be the right job," Swinney said. "Fortunately, he's in a position where he can take the right job. (Some people) take some of those jobs, and all of a sudden, you're never heard from again. He gets that. He understands that."

I like the fact that he wants to come back to Texas as oppose to having some that wanted to be in Hawaii. I think June really like his home in Hawaii and wanted to be there. And there is nothing wrong with that.

I think part of June's issue with being in Texas was always that nobody here really knew that much about him. They knew he was successful at Hawaii, and he was an offensive innovator (at least once upon a time) - but the H.S. coaches around here get visits from living legends all the time and therefore just didn't love on him that much. And he played out that Hawaii schticht forever....The only state in the country with a stronger culture than Hawaii is Texas - so people understandably got tired of that routine.

When you take 2 million plus from your boss every year - you deserve to give him your all - including loyalty to the school. June never got that for some reason - even though it is the easiest part of the job.

it will be shockingly refreshing to have an SMU HC that wants the school to do well (see LB).

If he comes to SMU plenty of people will say "Why are you doing it?" Not a good sign.

We already know the qualifications of all the potential HC candidates. What I want to know is what assistant coaching staff can each one of them bring to the table ? And, is the university going to announce to the media, and then provide enough incentives ($) to get the new HC a staff of studs.

SMU is at a crossroads for football. What level they want to play and be competitive and what kind of realistic fan support is wanted/expected. Can they become a team that will attract fans in the north texas area as TCU has done? Remember in the 70's that TCU, Kansas State and Northwestern were the 3 worst football teams in the country. How does SMU reprise Mustang Mania 2 and the memories of 65,000 filling Texas Stadium to watch NTSU and SMU play in 1979. Those with short memories... North Texas crushed Baylor even worse than they did SMU last Saturday which led to Guy Morris removal and a new hick came to Waco with his ballcap and a plan named Art Briles who brought along a world class hurdler with him that nobody expected to play football. Now look at em! Football is about perseverance and never giving up and going hard every play. Does SMU have the willpower or do they give up when rough times hit? The answer will determine if they get a good coach with a work ethic and a plan.....or not.
