Assistant coaches - question for Stallion

Postby LA_Mustang » Tue Sep 09, 2014 12:40 pm

I know DeSoto's Claude Mathis is on your radar to add to the staff. I don't know him at all but I've looked into his career and asked around about him. He is a no brainer - as respected as anyone in one of the most talented HS districts in Texas, maybe the country. I can't imagine what adding him to the new staff would do to recruiting in South Dallas County. What other area HS coaches would you target?

Just to get something comparable, wasn't larry edmunson the same type of hire? What was his impact on coaching/recruiting?

I'm showing that Larry Edmundson only coached one year in high school as the O-coordinator at Klein Oak HS. I'm not sure one year is enough time to make connections in the HS scene. Mathis has been at DeSoto for 10 years.

Keylon Kincade is head coaching at a 3A school in East Texas after spending some years at Mansfield Timberview. Good areas to build networks

I'm not sure I'd want any high school coaches except once in awhile but Mathis has College coaching experience and is uniquely situated in Desoto. Plus he took the UH RB job a few years ago but backed out. Perhaps he would consider SMU near his home
