DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruitingStallion will love this one
http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/colleg ... f3fb021026 With unanimity, high school coaches who spoke with The Morning News said SMU could be “gold mine†for a coach who recruited the area well. Smith, Arlington Martin’s Bob Wager and Jesuit’s Brandon Hickman all pointed to Texas A&M wide receivers coach David Beaty, a former North Dallas and Irving MacArthur head coach, as a potentially great fit. Beaty is considered one of the nation’s best recruiters.
Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruiting62 scholarship players from Texas
those numbers can be deceptive because of walkons but if you analyzed for scholarship players only you get the same kind of result "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruiting
The coaches have spoken. Beaty is a good fit.
Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruitingMorris HC. Beaty OC.
Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruitingDidn't they also speak up for Jimmy Tubbs and then never helped him out? They always come out with these quotes regardless of if it is basketball or football. The fact is that you have to hire a head coach and a full staff of assistants that are going to recruit the area. I even faintly recall praise for June and the staff when they came on board for trying to recruit locally.
Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruitingFlat out unacceptable for a program like SMU to not have a constant presence at every major high school program within 150 miles of Dallas. I think these first two games have to be an eye opener to Hart and the CoC in regards to our obvious lack of talent. This didn't happen overnight as those of us who have been critical of this staff's approach to recruiting can attest. The number one priority for the next HC is a coach that has deep ties to Texas (preferably Dallas) and can assemble a staff full of relentless recruiters who can walk into DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Denton Ryan, Allen, Mesquite, etc. and have the ability to get those kids to consider SMU. If you did that alone, even after the Texas, OU, A&M's of the world have taken the big fish, you'd have a program that was the best G5 program in the country and borderline Top 20.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruiting
They sure did RIP, but Tubbs wasn't fit for the job. The facts and numbers don't lie. June & his staff ignored DFW.
Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruitingthat meme was always ridiculous
High school coaches don't steer recruits anywhere The College coaches have to sell the recruits and it doesn't hurt when the high school coach is positive about the program As we seen in BB recruiting there is also a synergy factor too when recruiting Texas You didn't hear me talking about June Jones recruiting DFW well I lambasted him from Day 1 based on his his ridiculous coaching staff that had no real Texas ties except for Surfer Boy who flew into Texas a couple of times a year Last edited by Stallion on Tue Sep 09, 2014 10:13 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruitingIf SMU were somehow able to land Morris and Beatty.......wow.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruiting
You make any kind of excuse for your boy Jones. What next are you going to lobby for Mason to get the job? #HammerDown
Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruitingWhile TCU’s Gary Patterson and North Texas’ Dan McCarney have made it a point to engage with the area’s high school coaches, Jones did not.
For example, until 2012, the North Texas Football Coaches Association held coaching clinics at the area’s three FBS schools, with more than 300 coaches in attendance. Patterson and McCarney are regulars at the clinic, available and engaged as much as their schedules allow. (Patterson’s connections with high school coaches are even tighter, hiring popular Arlington Bowie coach Kenny Perry in March 2013 as his director of high school relations and recruiting; Perry was promoted to cornerbacks coach this spring.) Jones, on the other hand, showed little interest in participating in the clinic, making a few brief appearances. Over the past two years, SMU declined requests to host the event, forcing organizers to move SMU’s dates to Garland Lakeview. #HammerDown
Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruiting
That was a few DISD coaches but these are coaches from the entire Metroplex. In fact, one coach in another part of the state called June Jones out in a tweet during the game for not recruiting locally during the Baylor game. And as Big10PF pointed out, that was unprecedented. #HammerDown
Re: DMN: Corbett - SMU's lack of local recruiting
There is literally not an excuse in his entire post. He said you have to hire a head coach and a full staff that will recruit the entire area, which he and everyone else knows June did not do. How is that an excuse?

Definitely unprecedented. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown
