Would certainly add fuel to the TCU rivalry

Finally, someone suggests this. He still has 2 more years on his "Show Cause" Penalty though so not sure if it would be worth it.

Probably not.

The show-cause is nothing. He has to miss some games in year one (I think 5?), not like that's a big deal next year, and can't coach any bowl games through December 2016, but how likely are we to even make one by then?

True, but how does that look for recruits? Plus, the NCAA would most likely be posted up outside his office 24/7 looking for any hint of violation. Definitely, serious pros/cons. I would love to have him and he should be seriously considered. IMO, he's the LB equivalent for football.

well since they are reducing penalties these days - maybe they will waive the remainder of his.

He is a true Ohio guy and is now President of Youngstown State...he isn't getting back into coaching...move on.

If you hired him this year, he could get all 5 games out of the way quickly.

So we could hire this guy on or before 11/7 and he could sit out games
this year and be ready to go next season (and presumably get started on salvaging what is left of recruiting for this year)?
We'd have to handle a bowl in 2015 (snicker) or 2016 once it became an issue, yes?

Our the cause we could show to the NCAA to eliminate his penalties is that we have already been punished worse than a 20 year child rape syndicate so they owe us

Isn't this a bit of playing with fire? We don't necessarily have the best track record of a football program and Tressel certainly doesn't have a squeakily clean resume either. The risk seems too high for the reward if you ask me.

Yeah, he'd serve the 5 (or whatever) game suspension in his first season. Then we'd have to deal with any bowl/conference championship implications. As far as I know this wouldn't affect recruiting.
And, fwiw, the Ohio connection might be a difficult obstacle, but he didn't retire from coaching on a great note so I'm sure there's a desire in there to go out on top. Make sure he has a successor on staff (Beaty). SMU and the sweater vest were meant to be.

Jim Tressel? He is an Ohio person and he is out of coaching. This is a silly thought. Why not ask
Ara Parseghian, I understand he is not doing anything these days.
