A tribute to Coach Jones from a current player

In fact, his last speech Monday morning was on solidarity and perseverance. He said explicitly to remember these skills, because sometimes in life it will feel like you just got blown out by North Texas. Take the lesson now and your families will thank you later. That lesson is worth more than any sum of TV contracts, conference payouts or other trappings from the big business of college football. Playing football in college has given me a rare set of fond memories. But playing football for June Jones has made me a better man.

I don't think there is any doubt, even by the June Haters on this board, that he truly cared about the players and their futures. By as with everything in life time goes on and it is time for us to take this program to another level.

I agree with ED that we still don't have full upper mgmt. support and would love to see RGT run out of Dallas.

That was a really nice piece. I don't think anyone ever doubted his care for the players.

Yes, caring for his players is indeed one of Coach Jone's greatest attributes. He does not lack in that regard.

Very well written and so many seem to really like June, so much so that they will not criticize him publicly and the media is still using the offensive guru tag although those days have been long gone for years. Unfortunately, nice guys are not the best fit for football. The winners are those who have a single-mindedness to win and will push others to succeed. As Jimmy Johnson said on the reason he quit coaching "I was tired of being the bad guy"!

Based on what? What specifically are we lacking?

Love the comment from the guy who said: "This article tells me all that I need to know about June."

We should get our Cox School of Business professors to teach the way that June does: "Don't worry about the bottom line or delivering results for your investors. It's just about being a team and being happy in business."

Yep, I'm curious about this too.

ED has no problem throwing SMU under the bus, but somehow he is restrained in saying specifically what the administration did to prevent JJ from succeeding. Why?

It would further his argument and we now know ED isn't bashful about talking.

Doesn't add up and it seems rather easy to get to the bottom of, simply ask ED directly in a follow-up interview. Apparently Norm & ESPN did not ask. Hoping someone else will.

I felt the same way that is why I never demanded a firing. I only asked that Turner evaluate whether June was all in or not. If not he owed it to everyone to move on..................I think June is a very good guy, he did a ton for us nationally. I loved being in a bowl 4 times and I was able to attend two bowls.............AWESOME.

I remember the first one when they invited the people from the stands onto the field after the game, how proud were we? remember that moment and the feelings after years of being dumped on?

This N. Texas loss was devastating and completely unacceptable. It was like we didn't care and that is unacceptable for a team. I felt like Ray Rice's girlfriend last Saturday. Don't overreact!

I will miss him and I thank him for coming. Thank you Eric Dickerson for pulling it off. Thank you boosters for ponying up the money. Turn the page pony up and lets make it hard to be ignored, we can do this!!!!!!

I have been trying to figure out what ED means by admin support, and I have heard some other people in sports connected to SMU concur about a lack of support/family. But I have yet to see someone actually give a clear list of what SMU is lacking. This leads me to think there are some unspoken benefits given to former, and probably current players (and families), that SMU no longer does post death penalty that he knows other schools still do. Which goes along with his everyone cheats comment.

I would like to see someone make a list of what SMU is lacking in support, but I am guessing it is things that are not NCAA sanctioned.

Agreed. I don't necessarily doubt what ED says is true. But what SPECIFICALLY are we talking about here?
