I think you should recant calling Dickerson a Bozo. JJ mended fences and asked Eric to once again return to the SMU scene and become visible. Eric felt ostracized after the death penalty as did most of the players from that era who no longer believed they were welcome at SMU. Only a few were involved in the scandal. Eric has been very much involved in supporting SMU football for the past 6 years. He attends games, Hall of Fame events and has represented SMU well. Just because he is totally frustrated, as we all are, and vents does not give you license to denigrate him. He was one of the reasons everyone on this board wants the football team to again reach the success of his era. I may not agree with some of his comments, but he certainly has the right and stature to make them. He certainly has program insights and contacts, including JJ, not available to you for him to comment. Eric is a crucial player as we move forward to improve the football program. He deserves respect and we need him as a leader and voice as we go forward.

I think we need Dickerson as much as the next guy, but lashing out at the university right after the JJ resignation just seems like a really ill-conceived move any way you look at it. A guy who has a well-established friendship with June has to know he'll make it look like he's siding with June over his alma mater by making his comments so soon after June resigned. It ends up being an unnecessary distraction. No reason we can't criticize the act yet still know we need him on our side to change the program going forward.
