I'm a little late on this, but here goes-
Whatever your thoughts are about June and the final 2+ years of his tenure here (I was one of his last supporters here, and I said he should go after 2012 Tulane game), he really elevated the perception of our program nationwide. When he resigned on Monday, big national writers like Bruce Feldman were saying how attractive the SMU job was and were extolling the advantages of the job: location, facilities, $$$, etc. Seven years ago, this was considered a dead end for coaches.
Even ED's comments, which weren't particularly constructive, made the front page of ESPN.com today --- not ESPN Dallas -- ESPN.com. If ED had slammed SMU seven years ago, I can guarantee you that doesn't make the front page of ESPN. Think about it- today, what other G5 schools could make the front page of ESPN for one of their prominent alumni slamming their program? Hopefully Rick will address ED's comments publicly soon and reaffirm SMU's commitment to fielding a team that can compete for AAC titles, major bowl bids, etc. Announcing an IPF soon would also be a great move. I just sold a couch off Craigslist so I'll donate $200 towards it.
We will have a plethora of qualified candidates lining up for this job, and we have the money to spend to get it done. With a motivated, enthusiastic coach the sky is the limit for this program. We will have to hold our noses until November, but better days are on the horizon.

June did bring a glow of growth to this program. Thank You June Jones. After his jump to ASU blew up.. he never got out of bed hungry...wanting... eager to fight for the top talent. Heck he never even sent his coaches to the local talent.
That is lack of leadership. He should have been fired after the ASU deal but the buy out was too much $$$.
I thank him and ED for starting this, but both may have PE and not finish the job.
Life is difficult. There are ten simple rules to live by.
Run the race to win... not kind of go along and finish and get your check.

I'll always be grateful that JJ made football relevant again.
It's a shame that ED showed he still doesn't care about SMU. It's good to be loyal to his friend. We all are. But to blast SMU like he did is disgraceful.
Happy golfing (or whatever), Coach.

I think he does care about football and was ticked off. He just vented in the wrong way imo.

+1, excluding the 2012 Hawaii Bowl. So much momentum built between 2009-2011. So much squandered between 2012-today.

It's easy to forget after the last couple of years what a great job he did in getting SMU back to relevance. He should be commended for that. Criticism for what happened 2012 on is totally valid.

a) I thank him for his early work. b) Always frustrated me by giving 63% effort (which I could live with and didn't complain about as long as I felt we were improving as a program - that ended a few years ago). c) he should have been fired, not extended after ASU. d) He's been a dead man walking for 2 years now and almost seemed to be driving the program into the ditch on purpose). e) Offense has always been horrible except for i) end of seasons and ii) last year with Hal Mumme . f) I thank him for leaving, whatever the reason. Best for the program to have the infection cut out.
