Stallion and Academic RestrictionsWe do all remember that Stallion was the guy that complained about academic restrictions more than anyone else up until around 2009, right?
I mean, holy cr@p. One word: "Model" He was the guy that said firing Cavan was a waste of time. He fought this fight more than anyone else. The guy has 31,000 posts. Virtually every one before 2009 was about the darn academic model at SMU. Have people forgotten this? Or has there been so much turnover on this board that people don't know? People don't actually think Stallion has gotten soft, do they? Of course not. He is the same lovable jerk he has always been. The fact is, the academic issues are a non-issue now. The ghost of those academic restrictions are just an excuse at this point.
Re: Stallion and Academic RestrictionsPretty sure that's exactly, what he's been saying for a few years now..... That academics aren't an issue and Junes complaining is BS

Which is one of the reasons that ED's remarks questioned.
Re: Stallion and Academic RestrictionsSo many colleges have set up meaningless and easy degree programs for their players to stay eligible and for students to obtain a degree so they can say they "got that degree"! So many unemployed aggie athletes with sports management degrees....and unemployed but they got that aggie ring!
Re: Stallion and Academic RestrictionsThe "Hot" degree right now for college athletes is a Bachelors in University Studies ... what is that you say .... exactly. The big programs all have it. Sports Management on the Marketing side, you can do something with, a lot of the courses are through Cox. In fact, I think SMU this year, or maybe next, Sports Management will go through Cox.

Didn't Hart say awhile back that a gen studies major wasn't happening because it was essentially useless in the job market? They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Stallion and Academic RestrictionsI dont know your point but yes, he must have said model about 5k times...
Re: Stallion and Academic RestrictionsI thought their was class back during the Pony Express days called Computers and society, or something like that. Maybe I am dreaming that up but it was obviously for athletes
GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Stallion and Academic Restrictions
I wouldn't describe Stallion as "a lovable jerk"; I would describe him as the most knowledgeable and passionate SMU football fan imaginable. He deeply cares about our football program, which probably explains why he attends our road games as well as being a season-ticket holder. That may also explain his 37 million posts but I still read them all.
Re: Stallion and Academic Restrictionsit is appropriate to create "athletic friendly" courses as part of the Business School...after all, big time college athletics is big business for the University
Re: Stallion and Academic Restrictionsin order to do that Cox would have to make them available to all students on an equal basis
Similarly, I was asked on one thread last nite-but I was too busy to respond-whether SMU can admit every recruit that TCU or others can. I think that's why Blog started this thread I've mentioned this before several times-just remember to be admitted to an NCAA program a recruit has to be eligible 1) under NCAA core/ sliding scale requirements 2) under the admitting school's own admission standards so there very likely are minor situations where a school admits minimum NCAA qualifiers but can't admit a particular recruit when another school can. Every school has slightly different standards. For example the last time I looked Tech, A&M and Baylor had a requirement for an additional math/science credit that SMU did not or rather SMU allowed to be met by a different elective credits in the liberal arts generally. UT and A&M have requirements for JUCOs that others do not. SMU as a liberal arts schools didn't have that extra math/science credit requirement but had slightly different credit electives. So even though a school admits "minimum NCAA qualifiers" that doesn't always mean a minimum qualifier can be admitted to all schools-because there is another layer of admission standards to consider. This has not had a significant impact on our recruiting since June got here "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Stallion and Academic RestrictionsWhen it goes to Cox will you have to have more than a 2.0 to get into that major since it is in the business school?

Re: Stallion and Academic Restrictionsyep isn't it a lot higher than that. I thought it was near 3.2. These are common problems at just about every reputable school though

Re: Stallion and Academic RestrictionsWhen I graduated in 2012, I believe the cox pre-req core had worked its way up to a 3.4.
