I'd speculate that his only shot would come if he had the players looking great on the field, scored some quality commitments, and salvaged the season with a bowl win--pretty unlikely. Mason wouldn't be the splash hire I suspect SMU is looking for, so he would have to show he's the man in convincing fashion.
Hitting in practice is a great start to win back fans and distance himself from 'more of the same' fears--I'd love to see the boys playing high energy football next Saturday. I hope everybody stands behind the team regardless of results at this point.

Most people I talked to are happy they can support the team no matter what happens on Saturdays then have to be yelling for a coach to leave. Think it worked out for the best.
