Morrison Calling Plays

Postby ponydawg » Thu Sep 11, 2014 9:32 am

Not sure if it was official since they were CO OC but looks like Morrison has the lead for play calling.

Is Morrison more likely to stick with the R&S or does he have a history of any other schemes?

Morrison is pure R&S.

That said, I think he will be more willing to narrow the offense and simplify it than June was.

At this point, a more interesting adjustment might be if anything is done at WR - will they still run read routes or will they move to a fixed route system that takes a little more advantage of the explosiveness of some of the younger guys.

Well this cements 0-12 but not really sure that was even avoidable. Not like we have the personnel to run anything else since blocking is a big deal regardless of scheme.

Mason said it’s too late to make wholesale changes. The offensive scheme will remain relatively the same under co-offensive coordinators Dan Morrison and Jason Phillips. He said Morrison will probably call the plays, although that has not been decided.

Morrison knows a lot about offense and surely has his ideas and philosophies, but I assume Mason will have input about what he wants in certain downs and distances, etc.

So I guess it's Cassel the rest of the way in Morrison's version of the R&S?

Hopefully after we get shut out 2 more times in a row, Mason will reconsider some bigger changes to the offense.

Mason said "There will not be wholesale changes", he did not say there would be zero tweaks and/or adjustments ... I suspect there will be. Maybe more in down/yardage specific situations. Mason is a fan of the Pistol, suspect we see some of that. These guys have been around football there whole lives, they have seen more offensive and defensive schemes then I can name ... they can implement and innovate some. But, blowing up everything in season and start a-new ... probably not.

From what I heard they did not run the Pistol in practice today. Not to say they will not do it in future practices.

How could it be made more simple than June did for the past two weks? Swing passes, Bubble passes and draw plays with an occasional fly pattern.

Hire Houston Nutt to come in as a consultant and put in a run package. He could have one purring in a couple of weeks. That would allow him to get the spotlight for a while and someone else can hire him after the season since no one here thinks someone who wins the SEC west a few times is any good.
