Johnson: "... Based on current conditions, one can only answer with a definitive “no.” The result is a college football landscape that looks an awful like the one SMU got nuked for in the 1980s."

A landscape that looks an awful like the one SMU got nuked for in the 1980s? I dare say far worse today than ever was! Which makes the NCAA that much more hypocritical.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Amen ... but I'm still not selling my soul to the devil for W's. I don't give a rip who is doing it. Out hustle, out work, and out smart them, and yes out recruit them with the right staff. If on the field you have to punch someone's lights out once in awhile ... oh well, help them up and tell them your sorry. But, out cheating and out scum-bagging is not on my agenda. To the extent that dictates we stay mediocre, yet do every thing else balls to the walls, I'll live with it.

MO, and I am probably in the minority. But, short changing my character/integrity to match some else who choose style over substance, and then point to that as your justification ... no thank you. That is part of the problem in the world today "I want mine, I want it now, and I don't care if I earned or deserve it.

Am I showing my age ... Sorry, I will get off my soap-box.

The NCAA is an empty suit and money talks (ESPN etc.) ... that is the bigger part of the problem.

Sorry, should not have said "I am probably in the minority", thus implicating everyone on this board. Did not mean it to come out that way.

We still can't ignore some of the things ED was talking about simply because of a holier than thou attitude. As someone else said, ED along with SMU getting destroy by UNT, his good friend resigned. I would imagine we have all said things in frustration that we probably should not have said. I don't think that he should be thrown away of that radio show interview like some seen to want to do. I guess not many would care to reach out to him before condemning him.

That is not a holier then thou attitude ... as I stated MO and my philosophy ... and it is a challenge at times for all of us to walk that line, myself included. I was not taking a shot at ED (if it appeared that way), I can understand his frustration ... but to me, the whole article had a slant of "Everybody (all the top programs) are still doing it and/or worst, and the NCCA is turning a blind eye .... so.....". That was my point of reference. If I had issues specifically with ED, I would have said it. Any underpinning issue he suggested still exist ... absolutely need to be looked at and addressed ... because the next guy is going to have to deal with them.

yep Ideal, you might be right. I Re-Tweeted this article, not that anyone follows me.

Of course, those that don't get it(which are most people) would have roasted ED for articulating this view.
