Former Ole Miss, Arkansas coach Houston Nutt: If offered SMU job, I would take it

http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/colleg ... ake-it.ece

Houston Nutt is apparently ready to get back into coaching.
After three years away from the sidelines, where the former Ole Miss and Arkansas coach has spent his time as a college football studio analyst for CBS Sports, Nutt has reportedly expressed interest in the vacant SMU opening.
June Jones unexpectedly resigned earlier this week after an 0-2 start, citing personal reasons.
Nutt, 56, on Thursday told KABZ-FM 103.7 in Little Rock, Ark., he would take the SMU job if it is offered to him.
Nutt has a career 135-96 record as head coach, including a 75-48 mark with Arkansas from 1998-2007 and a 24-26 tally with Ole Miss from 2008-2011.

I went ahead and made an official "WDNWHA" stamp for all of the coaches that are being thrown out. Seems like I'll get plenty of use out of it.

I'd consider him if Jerry Jones would put some SMU games in Jerry World. Its kind of embarrassing that he puts Baylor, Arkansas and other schools there and not the local school. The Ravens owner schedules Maryland and Navy games at his stadium. Even the horrid Dan Snyder schedules Virginia Tech games and has offered Maryland and UVA a chance to play there, but scheduling was a problem.

Playing Devil's Advocate... SMU fans won't fill out Jerry's stadium. Those other larger local-ish schools will. It's all about the $$

We have a stadium that we can't even fill, why play any games in Arlington?

Nutt isn't exactly a total failure. He did well at Arkansas.

The fact that a well known coach with a record that includees winning at the very highest level is a good sign, I think, for our chances of getting a top notch coach.

Amen.

Know what's pathetic? 10000 people at a D1 football game.

Know what's *really* pathetic? 10000 people in a stadium that seats 90,000...
Texas bites. Baylor sucks. As it was in the beginning, is now, and evermore shall be. Amen.

He is 2 years removed from Ole Miss. Seems they are doing ok with what would have to be some of his recruits.

And Mustangstealth is being investigated for theft and/or copywrite infringement.

We need to have a full stadium of 40k SMU fans before SMU plays a game anywhere else. Personally would rather SMU never play there outside of a bowl game or season kick off special. Look how BB has packed Moody and sold out season tickets, it has become a hot item for the people of Dallas to get into games. Make an SMU game something hard to get into and worth bragging about going to.

At our current state, an SMU FB game ins Jerry world would result in 10K SMU fans, and all the other seats would be taken by the other team, if they are a big draw. Otherwise we would look like Tulane in the Superdome.

Not interested in Nutt; he'd be a disappointing hire IMO. But the mere fact that ANYONE is willing to publically say they would take the SMU job if offered is at least a good sign that the last 6 years haven't been a total waste.

I just always remember the 2 QBs from Allen that went to Arkansas (Casey and Nathan D|ck)when Houston Nutt was coaching them.

The joke was - "Hey up in Arkansas they've got things backwards with 2 D1cks and 1 Nutt"

If you listen to College Football Playbook on Sirius/XM, several veteran coaches are interested in the position. Nutt's naked interest in the job is almost at joke stage. Neuheisel speaks highly of SMU and says if they want to talk with him, he'd be glad to have that conversation.
