@TomMason20: Great recruiting meeting this AM. Staff takeaways: DFW will be our primary target and we never need to leave Texas. #txhsfb #PonyUp

Good to know they are getting their priorities straight quickly. Makes it apparent that someone behind the scenes knows what needs to get done...maybe it's mason/maybe it's hart mandating it, but either way I'm happy to see how we've changed in such a short time.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of posturing for future jobs either. Regardless, I've liked all of Mason's changes so far.

Definitely responding to all the high school coaches complaints. Didn't Mexmustang say that he was the recruiting coordinator though?

Responding to reality.

Hopefully next head coach and Hart will hire someone whose actual title is 'recruiting coordinator'. Don't think June ever had an organized, well thought out, year round recruiting plan.

While this sudden burst of recruiting enthusiasm/redirect in TX feels a bit contrived, I will take it.

Mason is not only doing a good job of trying to get our team back on track and our school relevant, he is also auditioning and establishing contacts for his next job. Having "recruits DFW" on your coaching resume cannot hurt.

“@TomMason20: All 9 @SMU_Football Asst Coaches are recruiting hard in DFW this week. Local talent needs to stay close to home for college!â€

IMHO, the only thing that Mason has done wrong is his failure to motivate the student/fans with a June Jones Pinata Party in the new residential commons.

where was this aggressiveness for the past several years? do you mean to tell me that June specifically told him not to use social media and that he wasn't allowed to recruit?

Given what happend with Klemm and Reinbold [spelling], it is very possible that June kept his guys off of twitter.
When I was in college, I made the mistake of going to Padre with my HS Aggie friends. When we went out to bars, I wanted to walk up to the pretty girls. They wanted to go for the low hanging fruit. [Note - they had a phrase that I cleaned up a bit.]
When it comes to recruiting, June Jones never seemed to believe that he could talk anyone out of UT/TAMU/OU/Arkansas. Thus, he appears to have ordered his staff to focus on the low hanging fruit.

This is an interesting little tweet with little real significance because it will have little affect on recruits once the new coach gets here. I do take some solace in this news though because I think this is direction that Rick Hart has made clear will be the new direction in the future with this program. Create those "binders of recruits" that the new coach can review

good point Stallion. Maybe this push is from Hart rather than Mason and staff.

Hart was obviously also pushing Jones on recruiting before he left. Glad it is carrying over.
