And a lack of talent. Not to be mean, but we really do look like a HS team.

They showed a chart that showed we are wither 124th or 125th in ever category on offense, so yes, we are.

Then the announcers talk about how JJ is an offensive mastermind

Sadly for SMU but JJ is laughing all the way to the bank.

You have to laugh at these coaching contracts & how these supporters & schools get themselves into these situations without any recourse against the employee (coach).
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

should have just fired him, told him he breached his contract and let him sue us. Could have settled for not much and not lost the last 3 years. We are too nice and our check writers are not so bright about football.

Unfortunately, we are stuck until Dec. there's nothing to do as fans but bash JJ. He is the reason we are in this spot. This program hasn't recruited at all in three years. That's why JJ should've been shown the door at the beginning of the year. The cupboard is completely bare. It's going to take any coach several recruiting classes to turn this thing around.

I didn't get a good pic of the "June Goneth" banner on the BLVD. It was pretty epic.

Some have said its a non starter and likely will again.

In the "Rumors" thread I wrote:

IIRC the first post JJ mention of dollars was to the effect that up to 2.5 mil would be available for the next coach and more money for the assistants. Now some of the talk is a lot more than that and and more for the staff also.

Maybe so. Maybe the money would be there.

But I agree with those who suggest the base salary ought to be in the 1.5 mil range, except I'd like big bonuses or or incentives or raises when specified goals in recruiting, wins, bowl games, attendance, and even the invitation to a different conference are met.

Then Ponymon ofered examples:

You could always offer him bonus incentives for meeting progress goals. Just some ideas: $1.5 million salary, $250 thousand for winning the conference, $500 thousand for top 25 in AP poll, and $750 thousand -$1 million for top 10. Same for recruiting with compensation based on either Rivals or Scout ratings or some other measurable that can be quantified for performance. At least it would provide an incentive to perform.

Then the comment was made that such results were worth more and that no coach would accept such a crappy contract. Maybe both observations are true. It is hard to see that all of the goals would be reached in the same season. But the lack of accountability and loyalty were problems with JJ and I would hope it will be demanded that the next coach works to a different standard. Really. the big reward for someone who performed well would be the offers received from P5 conferences.

I'd go so far as to say that accountability and loyalty, or lack thereof, are symbols of the last coach which will be remembered after media people have run out of ways to tell what a genius he was or is.

This team might be so bad that a high profile coach might not want to try to clean up the mess that June has left.
