Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall?We got blasted with 80's strip club music for the better part of three hours today while the Mustang Band -- the only students who actually stayed after the first quarter -- sat idly by, rarely picking up their instruments.
Not only is the recorded music selection stale, cliched, dated, and decidedly not "fun," we have a LIVE band. Let them play, Make them play. Amplify them (ask Navy how they do it with a SMALLER band). If they were to walk away, I would not blame them. Last edited by newshound on Sun Sep 21, 2014 12:12 am, edited 1 time in total.

An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and
doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall? This is not a white-trash Wal-Mart Cowboys game. Treat it as such.
Not a collegiate environment whatsoever. A complete failure.
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall?I think it interferes with feeling connected to other experiences like singing the school songs and cheering really good cheers. SMU doesn't have the kind of cheers I cheered in school. We had long cheers with storylines to them. We would have never gotten them goin' with all that racket they play nowadays.
"I'm an adult now." And I'm in the pursuit of happiness.
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall?We donated money for that band hall and I expect to see a bigger bang (get busy band director recruiting), I want to hear the band (playing relevant music) on and off the field- so mike them, but I also want good piped in music at the right time (i.e. when the Aggie band played or did their goofy cheers). I know you guys hate the SEC, but this is how it's done.
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall?heard that PA music wile watching on TV and it sucked. who picks these stupid music and why is it so loud? completely takes away from the college football experience. we went through this years ago and thought SMU figured out that LIVE SMU Mustang Band is preferred.
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall?Totally agree!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall?Aggie band was AWESOME. I felt bad for our band for having to follow that act. Music selection is AWFUL.
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall? The Aggie band looks "awesome" because they have been doing the same marching formation and playing the same music for at least the last 40 years! Even Aggies can get it right in that time.
Long live Inez Perez!
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall?We have an awesome and unique band. They just don't get the same credit because of our less than awesome (but no less unique) football team and fan base.
Support the Commitment! We're all SMU Mustangs fans- we should all be committed!
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall?I thought the aggie band was boring this time. usually like them, but this one was pretty uninspired.
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall?
Boring and uninspired = pretty much what I remember every other time I've watched them
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall?We don't have an awesome and unique band.
We have some weird group stuck in the 50's playing jazz and ragtime themes. Don't get me started on the uniforms. They look like a bunch of Gallatoire waiters. Lets try to have humor and modern music like the Rice band. We have good musicians but let's let them entertain us by playing something we can relate to and mKe it fun. The reason why they weren't playing at the A&M game was because there was nothing to play for. We didn't get a first down until well into the 2 nd quarter. Pony 81
Re: Why bother with the Mustang Band Hall?IMO a&m's band is THE most boring band around. I watched our game on t.v. and heard our band playing many times (I also heard the PA music some). Actually, once I heard Peruna and they showed the a&m band and it looked like they were playing so I was impressed we were the ones I heard.
