The Facts : Stich made a difference

Postby Stangsupporter » Sun Sep 21, 2014 1:39 pm

With all the chatter about how bad SMU is and all the people to blame I need to point out some facts about the game vs A&M. We had the ball for 10 minutes more than the Aggies and ran 2 more offensive plays. We rushed for 102 net yards which included 8 sacks, which negated another 40. We moved the ball inside the 10yard line twice and sustained drives into A&M territory several other times. I won't say this was all due to Krstich but what else changed?

So he's a walk on, who cares. Anyone who's watched the first three games should recognize he's clearly better than any other QB who's played. Maybe if JJ wasn't so concerned with the fact he's a walk on he would have seen the field sooner. I'm not saying he's the next messiah but he looked poised, made good reads and check downs, was decisive, and didn't turn the ball over. I read some criticism about him laying his hat down instead of sliding at the end of runs... Tell me that's not a guy you want to play for. He looks like a competitor, a guy that cares. Isn't that what we wanted in JJ?

Our Offensive looked terrible the first two games; they didn't look terrible with Krstich at the helm. Our offense didn't give up 58 points.

Lets be objective: we're not going to be an overnight miracle. I don't care who's taking the snaps. However, Krstich gives us the best chance to win and should be the starter next week against TCU.

31-0 changes everything. I thought he competed well. He's not the answer though. The answer may not be on campus

Like Cassel he's just a guy that played well in garbage time. Gary Patterson will eat him for breakfast.

while he may not be the answer, give him credit; he played with a lot of heart and did make a difference yesterday. He was the guy who finally moved the ball, kept A&M's offense off the field and prevented their laying 100 on us

Its very possible based upon what I saw in TCU v Minnesota game that SMU goes without a TD for its 5th out of 6th game. I don't count Hail Marys

He should get a shot to play early in the next game. He was the only one that moved the ball effectively no matter what string he was playing against. The few practices I've seen I felt like he was a better QB than some of the other scholarship guys.

I have wondered what the result would have been if the offensive genius had kept JW at QB that first year and run an offense that used his strengths.

Or maybe you just want another taller receiver?

Didn't we have 2 more years of JW available? Two good years to prep the next QB

Plus I don't buy the "JW can't run R&S argument. He had similar yards and completion % as all but the best couple years under Jones

Stich came in the second qtr, A&M's 1's were still in the game, as they were to start the 3rd. I think he looked poised (certainly NO Deer in the head lights), confident and both physically and mentally tough. Give the kid some credit, first real game action against #6 A&M. There is no way you can't say he did not show up and compete, and looked like he had some potential. He threw some nice balls ... one in particular (was not completed), but a tight spiral about 50 yards into the wind south corner ... slightly over thrown. He showed moxy and no fear, something you want in a QB. I have thought the kid had a nice arm and threw a good ball since the day he arrived.

"He is not the answer", may not be long term ... but he might be right now. He deserves a look ... he earned in my book.

Hey, the kid fought hard, threw no interceptions and even held up reasonably against the Aggies first and second teams. He may not be Joe Montana, but he's the first QB who has shown some guts and leadership. He's the guy until proven otherwise.
