“@BillNicholsDMN: To clarify: Since Garrett Gilbert's injury last year, SMU is 0-5, averaging 5 pts, 238 yards, 1.8 per play, 4.6 per pass”

comical stats. I don't think we could score a TD on Highland Park

Yeah I'm not really buying that our team is that much more inept this year than last year.

Just look at the Houston game (GG's first game after injury) and we got killed by Houston and didn't score a point.

I think our D looks about the same, O-line may have a bit of a downgrade, but most of all, our QB talent is light years away from GG. Slow, scared, indecisive, innacurate.

That Houston game in Reliant was a spitting image of all three games this year

Another key player, that fell into JJ's lap.

Ouch. Can we get GG back? The Rams aren't using him right now

The QB Guru's Program goes down in flames because the QB Guru can't evaluate, recruit or develop QBs

Except Garrett Gilbert, the point of this thread.

The point is JJ and staff's lack of recruiting beginning in 2011 was masked due to GG who's play carried us to wins over mediocre conference teams keeping us respectable to outsiders and apologist. JJ owes GG big time because he allowed him to continue this charade for 2+ years while he cashed fat checks, and it's something this program will pay for the next couple of seasons.

I agree. But JJ developed GG and gets credit for that.

Developed him into what? Just another JJ system QB.

Developing just one player out of an entire team is not a good sign no matter how you spin it. And yes, GG covered up a lot of things.

True. I've never had an issue with his coaching. As you know, my frustration has always been with his recruiting, which is the most important aspect of being a college coach, by a mile.

I am not a roster follower.

How many key people graduated or left from last year besides GG and Holman WR?
How many OL did we lose?

Should we really be this terrible?

I also started to dispute that JJ was a great coach. He had a system but did he really develop many players?

Not only does he not recruit, but I don't think he did a good job developing the diamonds in the rough that he brought on.

Sure, there are exceptions to this (such as Hunt for instance), but by and large, if he were a great developer of talent, we wouldn't be in this predicament now. And yes, GG covered this up for the two years he was with us.

Uh, no. He didn't. He was the #1 qb prospect out of high school.

Yea. June really developed him ...
