Bottom 25: SMU THE SEC OF LOSING

The hits keep on coming...

Thanks June. You brought us back to relevance, and then gave up so we'd go right back to where we were. Should have fired him after the ASU debacle.

I'll be honest. I didn't think we would be good this season. I'd figured we would be mediocre, close to the end of the season we would be close to six wins. I'd figure we would be competitive against everyone we would play. I figured Matt Davis would be June's 3rd transfer savior quarterback and another mediocre season in the books.

I did not see the June problem blowing up in our faces like this. I never thought SMU football would be this bad again. It truly is incredible to me how bad this situation has become. It literally blew up in our face!

I hope they give us the same publicity when we crack the top 25.

I actually did think it would be this bad, but I'm *glad* that it is. Rip the bandaid off and get the post-June era started. There's no time to waste, and another mediocre season, especially one resulting in June moping around for longer, would have wasted a lot of time.

With everyone (a lot of people) whining about how SMU went from a decent bowl winning team to THE WORST FOOTBALL TEAM EVER, OF ALL TIME, NOW AND FOREVER, ON THE FACE OF THIS PLANET OR ANY OTHER, maybe we should all take a step back and realize how quickly things can change (sometimes for the worse, just as often for the better).

Look at some of the other names on this list:

Northwestern - At the beginning of last season they were the darlings of the Big Ten, with the greatest coach on the planet, and a dark horse to win the conference. Recruiting classes had improved, new football buildings planned, etc, etc. After a 4-0 start against cupcakes they went 1-7 in Big Ten play and now find themselves #25 on this list.

Tulsa - Only 2 seasons ago they were 11-3, beat Big 12 Iowa State in a bowl game, and were considered one of the better non-P5 teams in the land. 3 years ago beat Notre Dame for biggest win in school history. Today, with the same coach, #17 on our list.

Vandy - One of the great turn arounds of all time, plenty of new 3 and 4 star recruits, coach leaves and right back to the bottom of the SEC and on this list at #14.

Fresno St. - The 11-2 darling of 2013 with a coach being mentioned for much bigger jobs. Fast forward, QB off to the NFL, same coach, suddenly not so good and #13 on our list.

L. Lafayette - #11 on the list with a coach that I believe some on this board have mentioned as possible SMU candidate?

Rice - 10-4 in 2013 and Conference USA champs. Bailiff mentioned as a great coach that always gets the most out of his talent. 2014 not so much.....currently on the list at #4

Etc, etc, yadda, yadda.

Things change quickly, just like they will for SMU football once we make the right hire and these guys get to work.

Add K State without Bill Snyder to the list.

Vandy is off to a rocky start since theyre still adapting to their new coach's schemes but they have big talent there. There last few recruiting classes have been great and they'll bounce back and remain competitive in the SEC.

Ouch, ESPN loves to kick us when we're down. What's next another NCAA investigation.
