I like to take a look at not only a prospective Coach's body of work on the field but how he communicates and relates to the public. In that regard, I found an interesting video on Philip Montgomery that gives you some great insight. Its the Baylor presentation and actual speech made by Montgomery at the Frank Broyles Assistant Coach of the Year Award ceremony. Based on some comments elsewhere I was worried he might be lacking in the communication department but that is definitely not true. He communicates well with an easy style although he definitely has his Church of Christ side which he talks about. Anyway thought it might be of some interest to those interested in the intangibles. Not sure Montgomery is my favorite but I definitely would have him on my interview list

Their offense is fantastic. Would be a great fit for what we are trying to do and could see him staying here longer than a Chad Morris would.

"Prior to joining the [Houston] Cougars' coaching staff, Montgomery served one year as the offensive coordinator at Denton (Texas) High School and helped the team to a 10-2 record and the 2002 bi-district crown. Montgomery spent six seasons as the quarterbacks and backfield coach at Stephenville High School, where he helped Briles' program to back-to-back state 4A Division II state championships in 1998 and 1999."

It's rather amazing that Philip was a high school coach before joining Briles and being his OC and playcaller. They've really come a long way. RGT is Church of Christ guy too so there's a common bond. :-) If SMU is willing to spend $2 millon, it doesn't seem like Philip is the guy. He would surely take on this challenge and get a nice raise at $1 million. I presume he makes about $500K or more now.

At Stephenville Montgomery coached "the great QB Kelan Luker" to a State Championship whose road to SMU immortality was derailed when he quit to join a Rock n Roll Band. Or maybe he is immortal for being known as the guy who quit to join a Rock n Roll Band

That's a good insightful video Stallion.
I like him so much better already that "Hype-ell".
He appears he could fit well here.

ps: Not that this should matter but Coach Montgomery is Church of Christ,
his Dad is a Church of Christ preacher and President Turner is Church of Christ.
Ummmmmmm

Yep, he made $504,645 in 2012. Interestingly enough Phil Bennett made $897,926.

He may have received a raise last year when Briles did, but I haven't heard anything about it.

Every time I hear a Baylor broadcast, I have thought the same thing! On the radio, he is way worse than this. He's really annoying.

But more importantly, Montgomery is very impressive.

This could be our man. Can't go wrong with a strong Church of Christ guy!
