The Elephant In The Room We Aren't Talking About

Postby StallionsModelT » Sun Sep 28, 2014 6:22 pm

We have some kids on scholarship that are flat out stealing from this university. Yes the talent pool is incredibly low, but I honestly don't think we are getting max effort. Granted, teams follow the lead of their coach and since ours quit after game two I can understand some mental check out on behalf of the players. That said, they are at SMU getting a free education to give the best effort they possibly can regardless of the opponent, coach, or whatever else is going on around them. I saw an awful lot of give up in that second half on the field. We may need a Charlie Strong-esque type of purge here. Not so much in that we have bad kids but that we've got some kids who are just here happy to take the scholarship and just get by. Hopefully the new coaching staff can instill some sort of passion and desire b/c right now I see a lot of kids who aren't really that affected by being the worst college football team in America.

Seriously. You'd think there would be a little added motivation right there if you plan on being here after this season. I saw an awful lot of walking to the sidelines, no emotion, no energy, and really no problem with getting blown out at all. Kids were laughing and taking pictures with family members after the game was over. How about you get your asses in the locker room and at least give us the illusion that you remotely care.

We definitely need a purge, effort aside there's very little in the way of legit FBS talent on this roster.

What really kills me is that despite having 3 or 4 wideouts currently on NFL rosters, we have about 20 scholarship receivers that get absolutely ZERO separation and have no breakaway speed. How does that happen with a R&S offense? Seriously I know our QB's are bad but they are throwing to guys who are covered like a blanket. The two crossing routes that broke for big yardage against TCU was the first time this season we had a WR with open space to run. Four games into the season!

There was a lot of quit on the field in the second half. A lot. Whoever the next coach is I hope he watches the game film of these first four games to see who is/isn't giving their all for the team. There were some out there that were truly playing hard (Zach Wood, Krstich, DJ) but I saw a lot of quitters on that field.

Sorry to say it but even if a new coach comes in and purges the team. The other players will quit, when June came a lot of the guys that played on the team before left after his first team meeting.we then had a bomb inter mural football team.

Back to my thought not all the players will be kicked off scholarship. I think that there is an article back in the daily campus http://www.smudailycampus.com/news/june ... les-matter

Especially since there is history it might be harder to get all those scholarship slots open even if they get kicked off.

No one said that all players would be kicked off the team.
