USAToday: Upbeat Orgeron seeks Opportuntiy

Fun article about Orgeron. He has a least quality we desperately need ... fire in the belly. He appears to recruit like crazy, close Louisiana roots and apparent ability to fire up players, students and fans. With the right Texas staff, he would make it fun and recharge the Pony Nation. The anti-JJ. We could do worst and we could enjoy the ride. We need some excitement.

He stated in Little Rock yesterday that he has not been contacted by either SMU or Kansas. Indication of article that he was interested.

I listened to a lot of his speech and he did not impress me as a motivator. I know nothing about his abilities but he sounded kind of buffoonish.
Did you hear his talk Judge?

I have never been a 'fire in the belly' fan. I prefer well conditioned, excellent athletes performing to peak efficiency with a well designed game plan over emotions.
I would rather have an excellent visionary leader that can manage a multi million dollar product by improving the athletes on the field, the coaching and an excellent short and long term plan for improving the program.
And of course the support and resources to produce a winner.
This guy doesn't seem to meet those criteria. But he does sound like he might be a bit entertaining with his cheerleading from time to time.

Is considered one of the best recruiters in the country and actually did pretty well filling in at USC after Kiffin was fired. I'm not sure he's a fit here but someone we should certainly talk to and keep in the loop.

I think the temper tantrum he had when he learned that he would not be considered for the SC job pretty-well squashed any opportunities he could have had with many schools present & future.

Kind of like Houston Nutt.

Don't you think there are coaches out there with both of those qualities (not saying Coach O is it)? Would you be opposed to a coach with both qualities?

I would tend to agree with that.

Was interested a year ago, until he bailed on USC after not getting the permanent HC job.

If RGT still has friends at Ole Miss, there is no way Orgeron is a possibility. The guy was run out of Oxford. Plus, he would need to bring a translator with him.
