The story I heard over and over last Saturday, was that Tom Rossley asked for a nominal fee to cover his expenses. R.G.Turner countered with a third of that amount with no room for negotiation, and the deal was off. I have no proof that this is what happened, but the story was all over the Boulevard and Ford Stadium.

No support from Turner? Nah, don't believe it. He lives and breathes SMU football.

PScott- if what you heard is true then it may speak volumes about the future of our fball program.

IF. We've got enough problems without assuming new ones.

As much as I respect Rossley, he is not going to be the next coach and I doubt he could have saved this season. Would have been nice to have his support but to spend money for a bandaid that may not even stick perhaps is not the best use of funds that can go toward a new coach.

Rossley or Morrison? It won't save the season, but Rossley would help. Pay the man. Plus he offered to help. We shouldn't be short changing friends in crisis, if what AL is saying is true.

I tend to agree. As much as it sucks, this season is over... already. There's no point in spending any money trying to improve what is going to be a 2-10/1-11 season, at best. That's particularly the case when it comes to paying a guy that isn't even going to be considered for the head coaching position a consulting fee to help out.

Simple solution: kick Morrison and Phillips to the curb already and use the salary money to pay Rossley's fee (and put the rest back in the bank for the next guy). I see no need to keep two guys on the payroll that a) are rumored to be actively undermining Mason as Interim HC and b) at best are terrible coaches who have not prepared these kids for anything this season. Rossley is not going to be the answer, but he might light a spark and Treadway is right, we need our friends right now.

It's worth it not to have the national news publish SMU's dismal weekly stats. Mason took a thankless job and said he needs help so give it to him. The cost is negligible.
