Mason responds to ex-player criticisms

http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com ... -out.html/Interim head coach Tom Mason said he understands the frustration and criticism. He spoke to the team last week about the importance of representing past players every time they put on their uniforms.
But he does not comprehend why high-profile former players such as Erik Dickerson, SMU’s all-time leading rusher, current Cowboys receiver Cole Beasley and CFL linebacker Taylor Reed want to publicly voice their condemnation.
“Those guys were successful players when they were here; they are entitled to their own opinion,†Mason told the News after Tuesday’s practice. “Just as long as they support us as a program, that’s the only thing I ask.
“My thing is, why don’t they come back and talk to the team and help us out? It’s crazy. It’s what happens when you go through one of those years.â€

I think Yenga had the best comment regarding both sides of the issue.
“It hurts us to see that former players are talking about us like that but they are right,†Jonathan Yenga said. “Everything they are saying is mainly right, and as a team right now, we’ve just got to fight back and play the way we were taught to play this game.â€

Players are still partly stuck in June's lies about how the admin hates them if the tweeter's comments are "mainly right."

Challenge accepted.
As a former player and a successful player, I will gladly come back and talk to the team.
I will help out in whatever capacity I can.
Just let me know when and where and what you want me to convey to the team.

I think Yenga was trying to support both sides. No problem with that. And he gave some encouraging words at the end.
“Through all the adversity we’re facing, we’re still holding onto each other, still accountable to each other,†Yenga said. “In situations like this, we’ve got to be strong, we’ve got to stick together and just fight this battle we’re going through. I know we’re going to bounce back and be where we want to be at the end of the season.â€

Shoot the man a note or give him a call. Can't hurt for these guys to hear some wisdom from the past.

I'm sure they'd love some insight and could add a pitch play from ponyte's wisdom. If Mrydel comes to talk he can say they are lucky with all this fancy color television and film.

good comments by Yenga. Everyone is piling on, but I saw some bad luck on top of it all against TCU. Not punching in that touchdown hurt badly. By the way, TCU looked offsides on the 4th down play coming off the right edge, but no call. Could have been called, should have been called. Then, when our defense stopped them on downs only to have the personal foul called for continuing without the helmet was brutal. How does the helmet come off to begin with, refs? Its happening way too much throughout football to be coincidence. Then the bumping into the kick returner play, that was more bone headed than anything, but still was an unlucky back breaker. I thought our guys came with good effort on Saturday, but when the floodgates opened, they couldn't stop it. This group of kids has had alot of bad luck to start the year, starting with whatever went on with June to a brutal schedule that no one could have predicted when the contracts were signed 3-5 years ago. Baylor and A&M are massively explosive top 5 type teams who borderline sucked 5 years ago relatively speaking. TCU is still one of the fastest teams in America, then we get ECU out of the gate. This team is shellshocked obviously. Give them some support and see if they can compete in the AAC as the season goes on.

reminds me of an old adage: smile, things could be worse; so I smiled and sure as hell things got worse.

Any good points on the UNT game?

Hard to believe Patterson left so many starters in till the end to try to get the shutout no doubt.
