Credible friend from Kiln, Mississippi called me with inside info that Brett Favre IS interested in the SMU job and has sent out feelers...apparently he wants to get back into football as a coach. Don't ask me why he didn't call Southern Miss....

Probably because he's about as big a Southern Miss fan as I am.

He only went to USM because he didn't get an offer from either SEC school in Mississippi... our mistake.

Yeah, if he wants to coach I don't think an FBS job is where he should start.

Tend to agree.

I'd think a better "start" for him in coaching would be on staff with an NFL team working with quarterbacks or maybe as a QB coach at the college level.

The problem is, if I'm a college head coach... I don't want that guy anywhere near my quarterback's fundamentals. Favre was a great NFL quarterback that succeeded in spite of his poor decision making and poor fundamentals. You can't teach his natural ability to make a play, though.

The best players usually make the worst coaches, but the ol' ball coach did win a Heisman...

Ol' ball coach is definitely an interesting character.

One of the more interesting stories I've heard about him is that he really wanted to go to Ole Miss but John Vaught didn't think he was a good enough passer to play in his offense... talk about a "whoops" moment. Of course, one might forgive Vaught for that error in judgement considering the fact that he had 3 different quarterbacks make 1st team All-American in 3 consecutive years prior to what was Spurrier's freshman year at Florida.

Do you think you could comment on College Football without referencing the NFL, an NFL Coach, GM or Player? I have my doubts

Not as a HC, but would be nice as a member of Mack's staff.
