Just another view of the disinterest in SMU football in Dallas (based on Facebook 'likes')... http://frontburner.dmagazine.com/2014/10/03/college-football-fandom-by-zip-code-sorry-smu/Dallas County:
Texas Longhorns: 31.1 percent Oklahoma Sooners: 7.9 percent Texas A&M Aggies: 6.8 percent
Individual zips prove equally interesting, especially 75205. That’s SMU’s zip code:
Texas Longhorns: 28 percent Oklahoma Sooners: 8 percent SMU Mustangs: 7 percent
Comparatively, almost every zip code in Fort Worth is Horned Frog purple. So much for being Dallas’ team.

Here's the link from the NY TImes where you can actually pull up the various zip codes. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014 ... 0002&abg=0And yes, it is very depressing, although I am sure the lack of support for SMU is a factor of our failure as a football team over the past several decades and not immutable. If we were winning the graphics would be different. It would be interesting to see the outcomes for this if they did a similar test during basketball season, assuming we will be successful again this year.

Fascinating. In order to make a little more sense of this, I'd be interested when and how the data were chosen.

Its based on Facebook likes to the team's page. SMU has done a horrible job on social media so this doesn't surprise me.

Good article, I like the idea.
This is exactly why the DMN struggles to put SMU on the front page or make more room for them. People, including SMU grads, don't care enough. That and the fact we stink and don't recruit.
But this isn't a chicken-egg argument. We have to provide the spark.

'Spark' wont happen till winning starts - winning big with a coach who recruits.
So stats like these are pointless. The problem is not the SMU fans but the product. Basketball proved that. Next-
QUIT BLAMING THE FANS!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

kind of surprised Texas Tech wasn't higher in at least some Metroplex counties

Me too, actually. Cool idea, but to me the data is rather suspect.

The data IS suspect, not very scientific... and I find it very annoying how D Magazine seemed to gloat about the lack of support for SMU in Dallas.
