Orangebloods Board/Myth/Mack

I'm lmao at the UT fans today. Not because they lost to a really good team, but because they are buying into the myth that they have no talent and are having a pity party on their board. A very little bit of research indicates that they have more blue chip recruits on their roster than anyone else in the Big 12.

All of this makes me even more hesitant to think that Mack should be considered for our job. Either he couldnt beat Aggie and Baylor in recruiting at the easiest place in Texas to recruit, or he couldnt do anything with the talent. Either way, it is a no go for me.

Compare to the 20 years before him.

Strong has had to kick a lot of the undisciplined street gangsters off the team. Mack recruited players that were not disciplined. It is going to take Strong about 3 years to clean that mess up.

Mack's fan club says he has something left to prove so apparently that means he'll all of a sudden become good at evaluating/developing talent again. We should risk it, after all it's only the future of our program at stake.

The math (may be wrong) is that he has enough blue chip players left to field two complete offensive and defensive squads. Nevertheless UT won't give him two losing seasons in a row no matter how they spin it. I like Strong, applaud him for getting rid of the trash, and would just as soon see him excel at UT as anyone else, but this idea that the cupboard is bare is overblown even after the suspensions and dismissals.

I do think some of the players Mack had were over rated and you have the issue of inexperience if the players replacing the dismissed players. They are learning a new system as well and id they are undisciplined players no matter how much talent they have it will be tough. There could also be some mutiny by players that like Mack and do not like Strong. They won't fire him next year as long as they see some type of progress. Next years team will be very young and they know it.

I think Mack would be a great front man for the program and would be perfect for engaging the Dallas community. If he hired the right staff to do the bulk of the recruiting and play calling, I think he'd be an excellent asset for smu

I'd rather have a HC who can put together a good recruiting staff AND coach. And win. Winning would be good, too.

As we saw with June if the head coach does not lead by example in recruiting it will not work as well as just hiring a staff and sitting back letting them recruit. Larry brown takes the lead in recruiting as does Kevin Sumlin, Nick Saban, etc. He is out every chance he gets. If Mack has lost the fire to do that then he would not be an asset in my opinion.

That Street Gangster crap is false and borderline racist. In terms of criminal problems, the horns were no worse than Aggies, Tech, TCU, or OU. Strong is using draconian rules and drug testing to run off guys he doesn't want. That's it.

Strong wants to run the Horns like a company of Marines. Will that work? I doubt it.

Mack loved recruiting at UT and was very good at getting the players he wanted.

He got fired by UT for three reasons:
1) Ash/Gilbert got injured and McCoy 2.0 was a bust. Without a top QB, they won a lot of games, but not the big ones.
2) after Muschamp was forced on him, he didn't have a good DC until Robinson was allowed back
3) Tom Hicks and his idiot friends wanted to replace him with Saban. They hurt his recruiting by leaking that he was on the way out.

UT truly has little talent at QB. Swoopes is not very good. Ut used to have 3 or 4 walk-ons that could start at most schools.I can't believe that have not burned Heard's red shirt.

Diggety I think UT did have off filed issues in excess of their peers. That is not an imagined problem.

Look up TCU, OU, tamu. They weren't bastions of purity.

UT discipline problems are largely the result of Austin - it is a party city.
