Head Coach Announcement Timing

Based on past HC searches - when should we start looking for an announcement? Seems like most of the situations where a coach leaves during the season, the announcement might occur after the end of the season, but prior to the bowl season being complete. My assumption would be our next HC is a coordinator at a different university that will be involved in bowl season (if not a playoff game). If we end up having to wait until January we will miss some player transfer opportunities, some assistant coach opportunities and some recruiting momentum.
November would sure be nice, but I think it is December more likely.

You won't see an announcement before December unless we're hiring a coach that isn't currently working.
My guess is that, if we announce before Christmas, we already had our guy at some point during the season and just had to wait until after the regular season to really ramp up the negotiations.
If we announce after Christmas, we ended up in a situation of having to go to a second or even third choice... OR our guy wanted to play his team's bowl before the announcement.

I hope we get an announcement in early December.

If you don't get it done by December 15-then it hurts recruiting because you won't be able to recruit until pretty much after the National Championship dead and quiet periods-that's a long time for kids to waver-and everything is pretty much tied up by the last week of recruiting season these days. That leaves about 2 1/2-weeks for the new staff to recruit. Also recruiting early signing date JUCOs is pretty much impossible

Of course the new coach could be recruiting for us on another school's dime....

Depends on how many more firings there are and where we sit in the pecking order. Very possible that our first choices string us out well into December. Some may get better offers, some may use us as leverage to negotiate raises with current teams. Will we get our guy before Kansas does for example? I will be surprised if we have a functioning staff before January, unless we hire Mack Brown or somebody who may get fired soon. Maybe we can get Paul Johnson on the double rebound for both sides, haha.

I would like to think most of the rumored coaches would be genuine in their interest and jump at the opportunity if we make a fair offer.
Jobs like SMU don't come open very often.

Should it be Chad Morris, Clemson's last regular season game is Nov. 29. They are in the same division as FL State, and already lost to them, so it's unlikely they will be in the ACC playoffs.
