Wow, goodbye Tommy Lewis.

My dad knew Dickey Maegle -- who changed his name from Moegle because people always mispronounced it as moe-GULL instead of MAY-gull -- back when he was the manager of the Tidewater Hotel in Houston. Lewis had to tackle Dickey from the bench that day because no one else on the Tide could.

Bama's QB in the game was Bart Starr.

I was in the stands that day and what a buzz the tackle caused.
Starr was also playing safety. In those days you had to be a complete
player as most squad even state schools only carried 48 to 52 players.
