Mike Taylor's radio show this morning on ticket did segments on Brown to SMU rumors, how bad SMU job would be, Brown would be idiot to take job, we only scored 39 points all year, etc. Surprising to hear SMU talk down here. But he does weekly thing where Mac Engel calls in and they today talked about Brown to SMU as well, and go to academics.

Mac Engel said TCU gets kids in Patterson wants by doing what the school calls "exceptions" where a kid is not up to schools requirements but they take him anyway. Said from the Rose Bowl team 23 of the 25 scholarship kids were "exceptions." He also said his understanding June got somethings done at SMU to change our requirements but not quite the same.

I don't know if what Engel said is true or not, but if we are truly serious about making the program work we have to at least do what others do in terms of allowing for these "exception" type kids. Some may not pan out, but some might. But makes no sense to spend money on coach and then tie his hands. If we are serious about football need to overall all areas and look at processes that work at other places and implement them here.

SMU allows NCAA minimum qualifiers for football, the bare minimum academics a player can have according to the NCAA. You can't take a player lower than this standard by NCAA rules. This was changed while June was here.

June was lazy. He used the academics excuse to cover his lack of recruiting.
