As though his losing record on picks over the last five years weren't enough...

Over-all pretty negative A-Z about the prospects of SMU football under ANYONE!

Essentially said that the program will never, and emphasized never, return to prominence and that the incoming coach needs to know that before taking the job.

I predict he will be proven wrong. "Never" is a very, very, very, very, very, very long time... 8)

And it's on tape, too, which means at some point someone will get to dig it up and use it against him.

How do we define prominence? Could we never be what TCU is now? What Boise State is now, to take it down one level? BYU?

I think he's talking about being a powerhouse Top 10 program like we were in the 80's. I agree that saying never is always risky, but the odds are certainly against that ever happening here again. I hope it does and I hope whoever takes the reigns here has the confidence and swagger to say he will be the one to make it happen.

In my opinion Norm was relishing being overly negative.
He was ready to pounce today.
Sure SMU is a tough job.

But Mack Brown or somebody for several million a year should be able to get us to 8 wins a year in this conference.....it's not exactly like we have to play Alabama, Oklahoma, or Florida State every year. For the time being 7 wins at SMU (even in this conference) will not get you fired. 8 wins a year and the natives won't be restless. I think the first step should be 7-9 wins a year in this conference, and no matter what Mr. Negative Norm says....that is an achievable goal in this conference with a multi million dollar coach.

If someone had told Norm a few years ago that SMU might get legendary basketball coach Larry Brown out of retirement, that SMU would start getting some very good recruits, that Moody Madness would fill the arena, that SMU students would be sleeping outside for tickets, and that SMU would be in the Top 20 in the country in basketball......Norm would have said in his high-pitched voice "But that's not gonna happen, there is too much entertainment competition here, Dallas is not really a basketball town, and Dallas already has the Mavericks, SMU will not be able to lure top basketball players, it's just not gonna happen....yadda yadda yadda"
