Official next head coach thread

It seems every time some team with a hot offensive coordinator/aspiring head coach type has a good or bad game, several posters jump on or off that guy's bandwagon. Then we have the "high profile" tease with Mack Brown, but plenty of us worry whether he will have the same motivation that Larry Brown had coming to SMU...not to mention it is actually possible to win a national championship in bball at SMU but virtually impossible to accomplish that same goal in football.

I'm not a fan of bringing in a coordinator who has not been successful as a head coach. Too many of those guys have failed at programs with a lot more to offer than SMU. One thing is for sure; we need a guy who has been successful in recruiting and has shown he can bring in a top QB talent, because it all starts there. We need a Ron Meyer type salesman but he also has to be a guy who can lure talent without the help of yesteryear's bag men. Hopefully the budget will allow the new HC to bring in a top flight group of assistants who will be good coaches as well as proven/successful recruiters, and as many have said...they really need to have Texas ties.

Not sure who that guy is going to be, but from where I sit, Chad Morris appears to have a strong resume.

That is bullsh*t and loser thinking. Do not put limits to what we can do.

So you don't want a retread but you also don't want a coordinator w/o HC experience? That basically leaves Morris (only HC experience is in HS) and a bunch of G5 HCs

Ron Meyer who you cite as the perfect coach had no Division 1A coaching experience. Neither did most of the greatest coaching hires at just about every school in Texas and Big 12

Anyone care to comment on this?

We have the same question being asked of Mark Richt here in Georgia. If UGA fires him, he would be an excellent choice. He checks off all of the boxes except for Texas ties.

If Stoops left OU, it would be for something like Florida or the NFL.

might as well re-hire the BU coordinator.

I wouldn't surprised if Stoops ended up at Mich. IIRC he grew up in Ohio and knows that area well.

I still think our best options are Tom Herman and Morris. I really hope we end up with one of them as HC.

have to call you out on Ron Meyer...he was at UNLV and had Randall Cunningham as I recall. He was a hot young HC who also spent some time with the Dallas Cowboys. I'd take someone with his resume and salesmanship right now

UNLV was playing DII football when Meyer coached them from 1973-1975 and Randall Cunningham never played for him (played at UNLV from 1982-1984 for coach Harvey Hyde).

plus Meyer never coached with the Cowboys-he was in the scouting department.
