Order Mason now to

Shouldn't Mason be ordered to "burn every red-shirt"
so in these last few games, we can get rid
of quicker some of these spares June was recruiting .
and not be stuck with them an extra year?
Why saddle the new coach with June's
horrible recruits for a an extra year
when we don''t have to?

No.

While there will certainly be some roster turnover, burning red-shirts does nothing to make that happen.

When the new coach arrives, he is going to implement a new offense and a new defense. Once everyone knows what the "plan" is, there will be turnover w/o burning any additional redshirts.

It doesn't?

How would it not easily eliminate at least one year off
many of these "no star" red shirt players June recruited?

Mason shouldn't do that unless there's an actual plan to use them in the last four games. Otherwise just let them keep the year of eligibility and the new guy will move them on out because they're just going to get recruited over anyway.

Scholarships are renewable tear to year. New guy can non renew as many as he wants can't he? We still can't sign more than 25 though

That's what June did, remember?

I think SMU took quite a beating from the media too.

Many will just "know" that it will be on their best interest to go. If I recall with June we honored their scholarships but they were no longer associated with the team. If they want to play football, they will leave.

Exactly. Plus, there are very few RS Seniors on a typical CFB roster who is not a major contributor/starter.

If you are the 3rd string QB, they won't bring you back for a "Senior" season to backup the backup.

I believe the beating was from dropping outstanding commitments, not from dropping scholarships. The kids with commitments found it difficult to get picked up elsewhere due to timing and the fact they were not highly recruited.

Hope the new guy has some strong JUCO ties as we'll need to get immediate beef from that market (sorry to be so crass). We need a major upgrade in interior size as well as in the secondary which can be found in JUCO (so picking up two 6'4, 300 lb type Dlinemen and a CB or 2 would be my priority beyond hitting up texas high school and building it the old fashioned way . . . I know it's a little bit of a crap shoot with JUCO, but with proper scouting you never know - plus, AT LEAST, it could add some maturity and push the other guys who are worth keeping like a Zelt Minor). Might even be worth installing a "juco specialist" on the staff for at least the first 2-3 years.

Stupid. So you have the worst team in the country and you are asking a lame-duck coach to burn redshirts for young players who may show potential for the new coaching staff. A lot can change development-wise over a two or three year period, especially for lineman. And don't run off players unless they are not following the rules. June's problem was making exceptions on that for good players. I hate to use TCU as an example but see how good the chemistry is at TCU once they let their 2 most talented players go and another problem child eligibilitys up? Brandon Carter, Devonte Fields and the qb with the drug problem. Per KSU, don''t underestimate doing things the right way with 2 and 3 star recruits. The results are amazing

Also don't expect to duplicate KSU unless you have Bill Snyder (who resurrected the program twice). The 2 and 3 star thing is a lot more likely to put you in a hole like the one we're in right now.
