Status of '14 NYC Mustang Club Event

I'm curious if the Mustang Club will have its annual alumni event in New York City this year. It usually coincides with the National Football Foundation Awards, which is on Tue. Dec. 9 this year.

Looking back at this post from last year and my email, they sent out the invites to the 2013 edition on Oct. 30. The 2013 event was on Wed. Dec. 11. But so far, I haven't seen or heard anything about this year's event.

There was pretty low turnout last year, which I think had a lot to do with June not making an appearance. (He also skipped the 2011 event when the ASU debacle was happening, but that time he was scheduled to appear.)

I don't see them schlepping Mason up here when the consensus seems to be that he's a lame duck. And while I do think Hart (and Orsini before him) have done a decent job of fielding questions that at times could get a little antagonistic, I can't help but wonder if they won't just not have the event, given how bad the football season was and how much uncertainty there is around the program.

Even if they do have it, what's Hart going to do? Fans are no doubt p.o.-ed about this year's fb campaign, and the only questions anyone's going to have are going to be about the coaching staff, which he's not going to be in a position to discuss. The point of the event is to encourage Mustang Club participation and boost morale, but it just seems like there's too much angst among the fan base to justify the expense of putting it on.

That said, the last game of the season versus UConn is the Saturday before the National Football Awards, and East Hartford is only 3 hours away driving. So since they'll all already be up here, maybe they're still having it and all my tweeting from the event over the years has gotten me banned! :D

The meeting has always been during the week of important coaches/administration meetings in NYC each year. This year, they are around Dec 11th. Thus, everyone important will be in nyc that week.

With the coaching search and our last FB game in early December, I wouldn't be surprised it the don't do it.

That would be a shame. I really do look forward to this event every year. It's been where a number of interesting revelations were made:

2011: The event coincided with the announcement that SMU was joining the Big East. Also, it was the first time during the ASU situation that Orsini said publicly JJ would remain the coach.

2012: JJ saying loss to Tulane was the only game he had penciled in for a win that we lost (which one could infer means that he expected us to lose to Rice that year.)

2013: Hart says fb uniform is getting second set of pants, plus a second helmet and new red & white uniforms in the same style as the blue.

2013: Hart also says future IPF will be where the soccer/track field are currently, (wonder what the status of that is now…) but it won't happen until 2015 master plan.

That second set of pants announcement will go down as a pivotal event in the annals for sports history.

i also heard from good sources that early dec is the target. Apparently the focus is on one person, and our guy is very willing and pleased with discussions.
