Turnovers. More than a possesion a quarter lost due to turnovers. It is a struggle for this team to perform without turnovers. With turnovers, this team is an inept as they come. If a team doesn't protect the ball, look for dismal offensive performaces like this.

And it was so bad, we never even went for it on 4th down.

I told my friend, who is knowledgeable about college football, and who is well aware of SMU's current...struggles, shall we say, that we had four - FOUR - first downs and his reaction was a mix of shock and horror. He correctly noted that in some games you accidentally get four or five first downs just from penalties.

Related note- how does June sleep at night trying to get another job while this dumpster fire is actively burning?

Pretty well since in his mind this "dumpster fire" is all SMU's fault.

Perfect example of one of June Jones' "passing gas and blaming it on the dog" career moves.

I would sleep pretty good too if I was getting paid for the rest of the year.

does it surprise anyone that the worst team in Division I - FBS football has the worst offense? I watched Clemson against Georgia State yesterday - another 1 win team and came away convinced they would clean our clocks (Georgia State, that is). No way we would play Clemson to only a 28 point loss

The only good news from this incredible meltdown is that JJ is professionally finished.
He is done in any capacity in the college ranks and probably as even a scout or some administrative position in the pros.
This disaster has come fully home to roost on JJ. Maybe that explains why a buyout was not reached earlier. SMU administration knew that JJ knew what a train wreck was coming and was hoping he would leave money on the table to jump off before it hit the wall. And they certainly weren't going to pay him to jump off a year early and let it hit the next guy.... Thus saving his reputation as a coaching genius.
No, they said.... OK JJ, you want your money .... OK... You can have it but the world will know you are a fraud.
